The Small Print: An Inspirational Christian Novel by Abimbola Dare

Excerpt from the book...

Chapter One: The moment he stepped into room 101 and saw Jennifer Lennox sitting behind the polished mahogany table, Wale Ademola knew he was a dead man. He shut the glass panelled door behind him with a click and glared. It had to be an illusion. He checked again. Nope. This was for real. She was here. What on earth was his ex-wife doing in his office?

“Good morning Wale.” The woman sitting next to Jennifer spoke first. Her name was Coleen something from HR. She’d interviewed him only last year, at the start of his job as a temp administrator. She peered at him. “Is something wrong?
He started to come forward, stumbled and bumped into a stationery cupboard. “Sorry. I… I must have the wrong room. I am here for a promotion interview for the trainee project manager position.” It had to be the wrong room.
Coleen waved a piece of paper at him. “You didn’t get the confirmation email?”
He nodded. His mind swirled with questions and he tried his best to look relaxed. Had Jennifer traced him to London? Or was this a nightmare?
Coleen gave a reassuring smile. “It will be over before you know it.”
My life will be over before you know it. “Uh-huh.”
Jennifer gave nothing away with her expression, and when she glanced at him it was like she was looking right through him. As though he wasn’t even there. She shifted in her seat and the aqueous floral scent of her perfume smacked his nostrils. He coughed, spluttered. He’d given her the fragrance for her twenty- eighth birthday last year... a day before he – should he say left her? He dropped his gaze to the table.
“You look a tad bit uncomfortable,” Coleen said, concern brimming on the edge of her voice. “Take a seat.” She gestured at the only vacant chair in the room.
In front of Jennifer? God forbid bad thing. He sagged into the chair like an invalid. “Thank you.”
Beads of perspiration beneath his armpits prickled. Trouble had landed in his backyard. Jealous enemies from his village in Nigeria had chosen the best time to strike their juju, African black magic. Wale mentally sent a curse in return. Thunder fire them all. Including Jennifer Lennox.
Jennifer tossed a stray lock of curled blond hair away from her face and held out her hand. Obviously, his curse did not work. “Mister Ademola,” she said. “An absolute pleasure to meet you.”
Mister? Her performance deserved a standing ovation. He sat up straight with a tight grin, convinced his expression must look like one on a mug shot. “Same here.” His hands remained on the table, numb. If Jennifer noticed, she didn’t react. She turned to Coleen. “Ready when you are.”
“We almost cancelled the interview when Maryann called in sick.” Coleen gave Jennifer a grateful nod. “Thank your stars that Andrea came in on a short notice. She will lead the interview.”
Andrea? A chill spread across his body. Jennifer changed her name? He swallowed. “T-that’s fine.”
Jennifer pointed to the jug on the table. “Water?”
Her nails were perfectly manicured, as always, metallic blue with silver sparkles.
Rat poison would be perfect. “No. No thanks.”
She sipped water from her glass. “I will allow you a few minutes to get yourself together.”
Wale squinted at the window. Determined rays from the sun streamed into the room even though it was barely ten. Somewhere down below, a car tire scrunched against the asphalt. The engine of a bus shuddered to a stop and the doors hissed open. Stall owners’ voices were faint in the distance as they paraded sun hats and ice-lollies. A perfect summer day. Why hadn’t he called in sick? Cancelled the interview?
“Did you bring your identification documents?” Coleen asked.
He snapped his head up. “Documents?”
“Yes. I included the list of acceptable documentation in the email.” She looked a bit irritated. “Your passport?”
Crap. He’d been hoping she’d forget. “Do you have to see it now?”
Coleen’s apologetic smile had a life span of about a nanosecond. “Immigration rules.”
“Uh, of course.” Wale shoved a reluctant hand into his breast pocket. He fished out a passport that had once been vibrantly green and shook it lightly. The frayed edges coughed out a small cloud of thick, black powder.
He forced a smile. “I dropped it in a pile of soot on my way here.” Yeah right. More like good luck charm from Nigeria to distract immigration officers at Heathrow from staring too hard at the passport. They were usually wary of visitors like him coming into the UK: Immigrants with no prospects of ever returning to their country of origin. The charm had worked. Despite the filth, they hadn’t asked a question when he’d presented it. He placed the document into Coleen’s open hand. “Here you go.”
“You are a Nigerian citizen?” Coleen asked. She blew away some more of the black powder and flipped to the middle page. She studied the page for a long moment. Wale kept his focus on the space behind her head. To the right was an old Xerox photocopier churning out documents with an industrious hum. He stared at the papers as they floated unto the receiving tray, counting in sync with slow eye movements.
“Your UK residence permit is a temporary one? Expires in eight months?” Coleen’s eyebrows rose in a probing arc. “This is a permanent position.”
Wale swallowed, wiped his palms on his thigh. “I will be entitled to a permanent residency real soon.”
Jennifer suddenly perked up, fluffed the ruffles of the stripped orange shirt underneath her suit. “You certainly will. Won’t you?” Her Irish accent was more pronounced than usual. As it often was when she wanted to be sarcastic.
He stared pointedly at Coleen. “Syms & Syms offers work permits to foreign workers right? I was thinking of-”
“We don’t.” Coleen cut in with a frown. “Not anymore. We exceeded our quota for work permits last week. Are you expecting to get a work permit from us?”
Last week? Talk about bad luck. “No I am not. I was just asking for information purposes. My, uh, wife is a British citizen.” Stupid answer.
“If you are sure...I guess we can proceed.” Coleen looked at him as though she did not entirely believe him.
“Hundred percent.” Wale nodded vigorously. “You have nothing to worry about.”
Jennifer’s cold, cerulean eyes pierced Coleen with a look. “The applicant is an illegal immigrant, and the interview will continue?” She gave half a chuckle. “Is that how Syms & Syms works?”
Her words stabbed his gut. Illegal Immigrant.
Coleen’s eyes flicked between them as if to question Jennifer’s sudden coldness. “Andrea, until Wale’s visa runs out, he cannot be considered an illegal immigrant and will be treated fairly. Trust me, when his visa expires, we will know. And we will deal with it then.” She slid the passport across the table. Wale failed to catch it and the document smacked against the ceramic floor and landed by his feet.
Coleen continued. “Let’s get on with the interview?”
Jennifer spread her arms out as if to say “whatever.”
The veins in Wale’s head throbbed. Why didn’t he hit the delete key when the cursed job advert landed in his inbox? Because he was an over ambitious idiot with a bank account the size of a dried pimple, that’s why.
Coleen looked at him, an expectant expression on her face. “Well?”
He sighed with weariness, feeling as though he was about to be strapped to an electric chair for a crime he did not commit. Finally he nodded. “I am ready.”
***
“Africa!” Wale’s colleague called out as soon as he returned to the main office floor of Syms & Syms, the IT project management consulting firm that employed him. Wale groaned as Q stumbled through scurrying assistants and ringing phones towards the cubicle they shared. Q’s real name was Quaddam, but everyone called him Q. They had been working in the same department- Admin and Supplies- since Wale started at the company. Unlike Wale, Q loved the brain- deadening post office runs, monotonous stationary upkeep and general servitude to the entire company that had been their duties for a little over a year. The position gave Q an opportunity to be the first to hear office gossip while it was still sizzling. On the bright side, Q’s enthusiasm usually made Wale’s days slightly shorter and more bearable. But not today.
“Get lost Q,” Wale muttered. “And stop calling me Africa.”
Q gripped a bunch of manila files under his arm as though his life depended on it. “Not until I finish my investigation.” He wheeled a spare chair close and slammed his files on top of Wale’s desk, unsettling the dust around the pen holders.
“What is it?” Wale asked. He reached for a copy of the IT News magazine on his desk, and hoped that Q would take a hint and get lost.
“Andrea Lennox interviewed you,” Q said, hardly noticing his lack of enthusiasm.
“Yeah?”
“She left a massive IT firm in Manchester to help shape things up here for a few months.”
“And?”
“Why travel all the way from Manchester to London? Syms & Syms has never been in the Times top hundred IT companies to work for.” Q let out a chuckle. “Or top five thousand.”
“Your point is?”
“My point is why?”
Wale returned to the magazine and fingered it; moving his hands across the images at a snail’s pace. ”I don’t know. Leave me alone.”
Q nodded but didn’t shift from his position. ”I see the interview didn’t go well?”
“It was a blast.” Wale replied in perfect monotone. “Go away.”
“Feisty.” Q wiggled his index finger. “Don’t worry, Wale. You’ll get the job you have always wanted. Then you will get promoted and leave me here all by myself.”
Wale placed his palm on his chest and feigned distress. “I’m heartbroken.”
“Okay.” Q sat bolt upright. “One more question and I am gone.”
“Five seconds.”
“Are you and Andrea related in any way, shape or form?” Q’s beady eyes shone with curiosity.
Adrenaline propelled Wale out of his seat. “Me and Jen-Andrea related? Why would you think that?”
“Just answer me.”
“Why?”
“Why do you Africans answer questions with questions?”
“Are you going to talk or not?”
“See what I mean?”
Wale took a deep breath. “This is not the time to muck about.”
Q tapped his chin and stared at the ceiling as though his answer was engrained in the perforated tiles. Finally, he lowered his head and said, “I just ordered an ID card for the new project manager.”
“So?”
“In her passport, her surname is hyphenated.”
Wale’s heart thumped. “What has that got to do with the price of fish?”
“Wait till I tell you,” Q said and then paused.
“I am waiting.”
“The first half of her name is the same as yours.”
“Meaning?”
“Her full name is Andrea Ademola- Lennox.”
The room whirled. Wale closed his eyes. “No. No way.”
“Yep,” Q said. “I saw it myself. Now what was that about the price of fish?”

Comedian AY Starts Record Label

The top comedian has just launched his own record, which he calls Premiere Music. AY explained why he went into the music business to an Encomium reporter.
A lot of young music artists kept coming to my office with their demo CD's. In fact, I have over 1, 000 CD's from different artists in my office. An up-coming artist will say 'Bros, we appreciate what you are doing for comedians, we want to see what you can do for us too.' But I kept telling them I'm not into music, repeatedly. It got to a stage that I began to ask myself, what is wrong in trying to see what we can do, since the people believe so much in me. That was how I came about Premiere Mus

Nigerian Prophet Turns His Teenage Daughter Into Sex Slave

He started having sex with me in January and he did so repeatedly. He threatened me that I would die if I told anyone and that he was the only one God had directed to have sex with me," these were the words of 17 years old Eunice Sonoye after her father, Prophet Elijah Sonoye, was arraigned in a magistrate court for the wickedness he perpetrated on her.

Elijah Soneye is not only the father of 17-year-old Eunice Soneye, but also her feared tormentor. The 53-year-old was on 21 October dragged before Mr. A Adenariwo of Ota Magistrate Court, Ogun State, on a two-count charge of maltreating and inflicting grievous bodily injuries on Eunice as well committing indecent molestation and abuse on her.
The court was alarmed to see a frail Eunice with grosteque swellings and deep cuts all over her arms and body. The adolescent girl was helped into the courtroom by her mother, Rebecca, and older sister, Sarah. The looks on their faces spoke of their trauma. Few minutes after, the crowded court room was stricken with fear when Eunice, drained of strength and unable to stand the rigour of the proceedings, simply fainted.
Elijah was alleged to have sexually assaulted Eunice on several occasions, by fondling and sucking her breasts and asking her to massage his genitals. The scruffy looking Elijah pleaded not guilty to the charge and was asked by the magistrate to be remanded in police custody while the case was adjourned till 17 November.
When NEWS magazine visited Eunice in Ota, she lamented her ordeal in the hands of her father. Though she initially claimed that her father only molested but didn’t have sex with her, she later confessed that she said so for fear of stigmatization. She described Elijah, a purported prophet and founder of a Cherubim and Seraphim church called New World Covenant Embassy, as cruel and wicked.
She said her sexual enslavement in the hands of her father started when she and her sister, Rebecca left their mother three years ago, to live with their father, a former banker with defunct Savannah Bank. She said the inability of their mother, who is estranged from the father, to cater for them, compelled them to live with their father.
Unknown to them, it was a journey into seclusion, want and cruelty. Eunice, who had just completed her Junior Secondary School examination at the time, dropped out of school on the instruction of her father. She claimed Elijah told her God asked him to stop her schooling.
First to detect their father’s evil intention was Sarah, who suddenly showed up at their mother’s place. Sarah’s reason for leaving was her father’s alleged pestering for sex. She refused him. Soon after Rebecca left, Elijah deflowered Eunice and ensured that she was kept in the house as his ready sex doll.

“He started having sex with me in January and he did so repeatedly. He threatened me that I would die if I told anyone and that he was the only one God had directed to have sex with me,” she explained amid sobs.
Eunice told NEWS that when the situation became unbearable, she ran away from his house to put up with a woman called Iya Osun, hiding in the place for 15 days before her father found her out and forcefully took her back home.
At home, Elijah tied Eunice up for two days without food, constantly whipping her. On the pretext of going to ease herself, Eunice escaped from her father’s hell-hole and trekked several miles, from Sango Ota to Ifo.
Without any money or relative, Eunice sought refuge in a church after narrating her ordeal to them. Few days after, the church asked her to leave for fear of being accused of kidnapping her. She took refuge in another church, but was also asked to leave after seven days. With the help of a good Samaritan, Eunice returned to her mother, who she narrated her predicament to.
Speaking with the magazine, Eunice mother, Rebecca, said she left Elijah because he was cruel to her. “I dared not ask questions or hold any contrary opinion to his, he would beat me up mercilessly. None of my family members could visit me because he said he didnt want to see them and once threw out my mother around 10p.m,” she recalled.

Eunice’s sister, Sarah, corroborated her mother’s remarks, adding that their father was the devil’s incarnate. Rebecca cursed and wailed, wishing that her violated daughter gets justice. Rebecca bore Sarah, Eunice and a boy named Michael for Elijah.

Customs Retrieves Auctioned NIPP Equipments

The Senate Committee on Power has given the Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) a two week deadline to clear the ports of every container holding equipment meant for the power sector.

The directive comes as the committee on power investigates the auctioning of equipment meant for the National Independent Power Project (NIPP) by the Nigeria customs service.

However at a meeting with the committee, the Comptroller General, NCS, Alhaji Abdullahi Dikko disclosed that the agency has retrieved fifteen containers which were auctioned.

He however said there were still seven outstanding containers belonging to the NIPP which is yet to be retrieved, promising that the agency would retrieve them by Friday.

The committee had last Tuesday ordered the service to retrieve, within seven days all the 22 containers, estimated at over $5.3billion, belonging to the NIPP and the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) it was said to have auctioned.

Chairman of the committee, Senator Philip Aduda (PDP, FCT), who gave the order during a meeting the committee had with officials of the NIPP, the Customs Service and PHCN, had warned that key actors in the secret auctioning of the power equipment may end up in jail if the agency failed within seven days to recover the items and return them to government for use.

Aduda, while expressing happiness over the recovery of the containers, however, gave the service two weeks to clear all equipment belonging to the Nigeria Independent Power Project (NIPP) and directed that the equipment be moved to site as soon as possible.

He said the status of all contractors involved in the power project should be published for the committee to be able to follow up, saying “we cannot pay lip service to power projects again in the country.”

One of the committee members, Senator Patrick Akinyelure (LP, Ondo), had remarked that the country did not want any more excuse for constant power failure and stressed that contractors were under obligations to deliver.

He said funding should not be a hindrance, adding that there should be provision for credit between the contractors and officials of NIPP as long as they would collect their money anytime government released money.

Man kills Pastor for Raping his Daughter

Elder Freeman and wife of dead pastor
A 56-year-old man, John Oromoro, is in police custody for allegedly killing his pastor, Ben Ojinaka. The incident happened on Sunday, September 19th at Jakande Estate, Ajangbadi. Mr Oromoro said the pastor of Jesus Power Ministry, Benjamin Ojinaka, 45, allegedly raped his 15-year-old daughter in July this year. He said he went to confront the pastor on the allegation that it was his daughter that lured him to have sex with him when a fight ensued between them that led to the pastor’s death.

“I be tanker driver,” he said. “The thing wey happen na since more than one month ago. My daughter, wen be the last born of my fourteen children get marine spirit. Lesbian Prostitution Booms In Lagos!!!

Beautiful girls, rich women, money, expensive cars, strip clubs, luxurious hotels —the secret sex trade, exclusive only to women, is now big business in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, P.M.NEWS has revealed, after intense undercover research.

Like in a secret cult, only the initiated understand its cryptic language, esoteric ways, sexual benefits and financial rewards.

For those involved in the bizarre trade, it was discovered during investigation in Lagos Mainland and Island, lesbianism is not new.

Most sex workers with secondary school education agreed that their involvement in the salacious act dates back to their boarding school days when they were initiated by older girls.

Back then, it was just casual sex by girls in their puberty. Today, lesbianism has become a trade, a big but hidden business in the Lagos metropolis.

Dozens of prostitutes informally interviewed during this investigation gave a rare insight into the usually hermetic world of lesbianism in Lagos and the trade now associated with it.
The youngest lesbian prostitute P.M.NEWS met for this article was 16 years old. Most of them were in their early 20s.

Many get involved through seduction. Some are influenced or initiated by friends who are already in the sex trade and have contacts and connections in high places , where women are ready to exchange cash for pleasure.

“I was introduced to lesbianism when I was in secondary school. I was in a boarding school in Benin,” says one of the lesbian prostitutes who introduced P.M.NEWS team into the strange world of lesbian prostitution in Nigeria’s most populous city.

Now a student at the University of Ado Ekiti, the Edo State indigene, shuttles between campus and clubs, hotel rooms or sleek houses in Lagos most weekends to have sex with rich women.

“I have to be in Lagos on weekends because that’s where the business pays well. Sometimes, I travel to Port Harcourt, but most times, I come Lagos.

“I already know how it works here in Lagos. I have a lot of contacts in the strip clubs and I have a lot girls who are into the business and they refer women to me. But it is better to meet the woman yourself because if she is rich, the other girl will not refer you to her, she will take her herself,” she says.

During an outing in Lagos four weeks ago, she remembered with nostalgia, how a rich man once approached her for his shy wife and paid her big money.

“She was shy, she told me. She wanted a girl that night but she could not come to the strip club and her husband picked me for her.

“The husband left us in the room upstairs. He was having some drinks downstairs and watching TV. He later came when we were almost done and gave her a peck. He asked her if I was good. She didn’t answer. She just gave him a peck and smiled,” she said.

She admitted that sometimes, she services men, but added, “It’s better to do it with a girl. She knows how to make you come and she cannot transmit diseases to you.”

There are also risks, she admitted. She remembered how she was approached by “one rich woman with a British accent.

“I agreed to follow her. However, when we got home, there were two other ladies waiting for me. She did not tell me I would be having sex with three women. But I had no choice. I was already there and I did it. I just renegotiated the amount,” she said.

This new trend of prostitution is fast spreading among teenagers, but is not restricted to them.
The high and mighty in the society are involved. Other less fortunate in life are also involved in their level.
Tribe or religion is no barrier. P.M.NEWS was introduced to some lesbian prostitutes who claimed to be Muslims and others said they are Christians.

There were also others, who perhaps, due to the effect of alcohol, did not know which religion they practice.
Unlike the ordinary sex trade between men and women, those involved in the trade said they do not stand by the roadside to meet patrons.

Patrons and sex workers usually meet in some of the strip clubs in Lagos, exchange contacts or leave straightaway for their escapades.

Rich women are involved mainly for pleasure while the workers are in it for money.

“It’s about connection. One person introduces “one person to another and it goes round. They are able to identify themselves through compliments like;oh! I love your legs. You have sweet boobs. You look beautiful,’” another lesbian prostitute said in a strip club during the investigation.
She added: “They also wink and look seductively at you. If they get a good response from you, then they know they are with the right person.”

She says some possess a high level of courage.

“They can walk up to any lady they find attractive as long as the environment is safe for them.”
Other prostitutes argued that society women in Lagos who are involved in the trade are very caring.

“Especially if they find you interesting, in the sense that if you are able to make them reach orgasm. They will give you a special treatment such as take you for shopping and keep you as partner even after sex. They can then buy you a car or rent you an apartment,” one of the sex workers said, echoing what was heard from others in their business.

The payment for services rendered is determined by quality service offered by the prostitute.
“It could be sucking their private part or the ability to creatively use your hands to please them,” a sex worker said.

The excellent use of vibrators and a good massage can put one worker at an advantage position.
The fees start from N15000 a night and can reach N100,000 in some cases. The amount dwarfs by far what is paid by men, which starts from N1000 or N2000 depending on the area.

The ghettos are no exception to the trade but the price is relatively poor, it was discovered. It varies between N2000 and N5000.

One sex worker explained that even though the trade is based on connections and recommendations, there are special places where it is easy to get hooked with lesbians. Beauty salon, luxurious hotels, swimming pools and expensive shopping malls were mentioned.

Married women are also involved. They woo girls in need of money, including their friends’ daughters.
Married women in the trade claim that their husbands are either not good enough in bed or too busy to attend to their sexual needs.

“They tell me their husbands do not satisfy them or are too busy and they can’t cheat with another man without being suspected,” a worker said

“The good thing about it is that men cannot suspect them. Any woman can hang out with them and men are not bothered,” a sex worker said.

Some women, the prostitute explained, invite two girls to satisfy them.

The root of this new dimension of prostitution can be traced to “only-girls” boarding schools.
Young innocent girls in such schools are lured into the act by older girls, most time through bullying.

During this investigation, our correspondents interviewed dozens of sex workers mainly at strip clubs and attended a get together by lesbians and bi-sexuals.

12 Dead, Millions Without Power after Rare US Storm

Devastation from a rare and deadly October snowstorm lingered in the Northeast Monday, leaving 2.2 million houses without power, closing schools, snarling the morning commute and postponing Halloween fun, reports Reuters.
The storm that raged from West Virginia to Maine from Saturday until late Sunday was blamed for at least 12 deaths, most of them on slippery roads.
Many roads were still barricaded to steer traffic away from downed trees and power lines.
Ghoul and goblin decorations were blanketed with record snowfall for October in many places, such as 32 inches (81 cm) measured in the western Massachusetts town of Peru, according to the National Weather Service.
Utility officials said the storm caused more tree damage than most winter storms because leaves had not yet fallen so trees caught far more snowfall than usual.
"It was like wet cement that just adhered to trees, branches, leaves and power lines," said David Graves, spokesman for utility National Grid.
"That's what really caused the damage, the weight of that snow," he said.
Across the Northeast, about 2.2 million customers remained without power Monday.
Theo Brinkerhoff, 4, who planned to dress as a ghost on Monday but was forced to wear a heavy sweater and snow boots under his costume to keep warm, refused to believe it was the bewitching autumn holiday.
"It's not Halloween, because it's still winter," he said while visiting grandparents in Amherst, Massachusetts, a town still mostly in the dark.
It will likely be days before power is restored to all residents in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey and other states hit hard by the storm.
Despite a sunny Monday, several New Jersey Transit train lines going into New York City remained suspended.
Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy said 100 state roads were closed and about 200 more partially closed.
Connecticut was particularly hard hit and Malloy called the power outages in his state the worst in history. As residents escaped homes without heat and electricity, hotels in central Connecticut were sold out.
Snow days, usually not tapped until at least after Thanksgiving, were declared by scores of public schools that remained shut throughout the Northeast.
While children were delighted with the surprise long weekend, their parents were advised that because of downed wires, Halloween trick-or-treat routines should be adjusted so children were home by dark and an adult accompanied them.
In Worcester, Massachusetts, the city asked parents, schools and neighbours to postpone Halloween celebrations until Thursday, when the weather was expected to be warmer and downed trees and power lines would likely be cleared.
The New Hampshire communities of Manchester and Nashua asked parents to put off trick or treating and reschedule the annual candy collection until Sunday, November 6.

Court Throws Out CPC's Petition Challenging Pres. Jonathan's Win in April 2011 Elections

The five-man panel at the Election Petition Tribunal in Abuja has thrown out the petition of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) challenging the victory of President Goodluck Jonathan at the 16 April 2011 general elections.

The landmark ruling delivered just moments ago today dismissed the CPC petition for lack of merit and comes after six months of intense legal battle.

At the last hearing on the matter, while adopting his final address, Counsel to the CPC, Oladipo Okpeseyi had told the court that he filed a preliminary objection against the defendants' written address. He claimed that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had abandoned its plea when it failed to call witnesses to substantiate them.

According to Okpeseyi, INEC had called only three witnesses out the 36 States of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), and as such had abandoned its defence.

Wole Olanipeku, counsel to President Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo, in his final address, urged the court to dismiss the petition against the president and his VP.

He was joined by Adegboyega Awomolo, INEC's counsel, who maintained that a party is supposed to rely on evidence presented before the court.

They agreed that the CPC failed to meet proof of evidence. In adopting his address prior to the ruling, counsel to PDP, Amaechi Nwaisu said that the CPC's preliminary objection lacked merit. Nwaisu had asked the court dismiss both the petiont and the preliminary objection.

Court Grants Baba Suwe Bail

Following an order by Justice Yetunde Idowu of the Ikeja High Court to National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to produce Babatunde Omidina also known as Baba Suwe on Wednesday 26 October, the Agency today produced the comedian suspected of drug trafficking to the court premises.

The order was granted following an ex-parte motion filed by the actor's counsel, Mr Bamidele Aturu.

Actors and actresses laid siege at the court to support their estranged colleague who has been in NDLEA custody for over three weeks.

Justice Idowu, after the hearing granted bail to the comedian in the sum of 500,000 naira but insisted it will take effect from the 4th of November 2011.

The NDLEA were earlier granted the permission to detain the comedian for another 15 days after they discovered what they considered “more evidence” by a Federal High Court in Lagos presided by Justice Okechukwu Okeke on 21 October 2011.

The existing order ends on 4th November 2011 and will immediately give way to the just delivered judgement to take effect immediately.

Baba Suwe had filed a N100 million suit against NDLEA over his arrest and detention by the agency on October 12, seeking a declaration that his arrest was in gross violation of his rights.

The N100 million being demanded by the actor is compensation from the NDLEA for the alleged illegal and unconstitutional violation of his fundamental rights by the agency.
