Minister of Education, Prof Ruqayyatu Ahmed Rufa’i has called on National Mathematical Centre, NMC, to take immediate steps to simplify the teaching of Mathematics in the country to engender theinterest of students.
Prof. Rufa’i identified poor perception and teaching method as largely responsible for the lack of interest in the subject by students, stressing that Mathematics is a ‘’Must Pass Subject” forevery student hence the need to arouse theirinterest through improved teaching methods.
The minister spoke while receiving the ChiefExecutive of NMC, Prof. Sam Ale who was on a courtesy call to congratulate her on her re-appointment.
According to her, “President Goodluck Jonathan and indeed theFederal Ministry of Education are keen on proper understanding ofMathematics as a majortool for the study of other subjects” and assured of the continued support of the Federal Government to the centre”.(vanguard newspaper), good afternoon.
