Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has stressed the need for the establishment of more radio stations as a way of fast-tracking development within thenooks and crannies of the country.
Chief Obasanjo said thison Wednesday while playing host to the management team of Paramount FM and officials of the Ibadan South-West zonal officeof the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), at his Hilltop residence in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
He lamented that despite the enormous power inherent in radio communication, its potential had not been fully explored and utilised by the government and privateindividuals to drive development in Nigeria.
Chief Obasanjo added that there should be more radio stations across the country for it to develop faster, saying that the majority of the people could be informed and participate in the developmental issues.
The zonal team, made up of representatives from FRCN's controlled stations in Lagos, Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ondo, Ogun, Edo and Delta states respectively, was led bythe Zonal Director, Elder Dada Ogundele.
The team informed Obasanjo that they were in Abeokuta to show appreciation to him for establishing more FRCN stations across the country during his eight-year administration and to solicit for "building materials and funds" support for the various FRCN FM stations.
