The Peoples DemocraticParty (PDP), Osun State chapter, has called on the state House of Assembly to commence the impeachment process of the state governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, for allegedly flouting the constitution of Nigeria.
The party, in a letter dated August 22, 2011, and signed by the stateacting chairman, Cheif Sunday Ojo-Williams, which was addressed to the Speaker of the assembly, Honourable Nojeem Salam, listed eight impeachable offences allegedly committed by the governor.
The party accused Mr Aregbesola of flagrant disregard to the plight of medical doctors in the service of the state, who had embarked on industrial action since January over poor conditions of service.
Also, PDP did accuse thegovernor of turning deaf ears to the demands of workers oftertiary institutions owned by the state andthat all efforts by the institutions’ unions to meet with the governorand make their grievances known so asto find a resolution to the problem was rebuffed.
The party added that “flouting of the state law and order of the State House of Assembly which directed him to appoint seven-member caretaker committees for the local governments, he instead appointed seven per local government,” the partyadded.
Reacting to the allegations raised by PDP and the call for the impeachment of the governor, the state Commissioner for Information, Mr Sunday Akere, urged the lawmakers and the people of the state to disregard all the allegations rased, describing the party andits members as being grieved because they had been sacked from the management of theaffairs of the state by the electorate.
