A
five-man court of appeal sitting in Ibadan the Oyo state capital,
South West Nigeria has dismissed the appeal filed by the PDP
challenging the victory of the Ogun state governor, Ibikunle Amosun in
the last April governorship election in the state for lack of merit.
It would be recalled that the three-man election tribunal headed by
Justice Basir Sukola which sat in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital
upheld the victory of the governor dismissing allegations of rigging,
ballot stuffing and intimidation of voters brought by the PDP.
The Presiding judge of the Appeal Court, Justice Raphael Agbo has
however set aside 5th of January for the reasons for the dismissal.
The lead counsel to the governor, Olumide Ayeni commended the judgment,
saying that it was the reflection of the mandate given to the governor
by the people of the state, while the counsel to the PDP, Ayo Amao
declined comment on the issue.
