Boko Haram: JTF imposes curfew in Borno

THE Joint Task Force on Operation Restore Order in Borno State has imposed curfew in Maiduguri and Jere Council areas from 6.00 p.m. to 6.00 a.m., following the threats posed by the Islamic sect, Boko Haram which is calling for an open jihad on government and Christians in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
A press statement issued by the Commander of the JTF, Major General Jack Nwaogbo, which was signed by the Field Operation Commander, Colonel Victor Ebheleme and made available to  the Nigerian Tribune, on Thursday, advised members of the public to comply, as anyone who violated such order will be dealt with according to the “Rule of Engagement.”
The statement added that by this directive, security agencies were empowered to fish out Boko Haram adherents, supporters and other criminal elements hiding under the cover of Boko Haram and to deal with such decisively in order for peace to reign in the crisis-ridden state.
It also advised law-abiding citizens to go about their normal business within the stipulated time, pointing out that those on essential services should identity themselves properly to the security agencies.
The statement further enjoined members of the public to make use of the following mobile telephone hotlines: 07085464012, 08154429346 and  08064174066, to report issue of security interest to the JTF, as any information received would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
Meanwhile, the government has advised citizens that as part of moves to contain the security situation in the state, all citizens should ensure compliance so as to fight the menace.
In another development, the killings in Adamawa State continued, as unidentified gunmen on Wednesday, night, in Yola, invaded a police station at Jambutu Motor Park, killing a policeman on duty and making away with his AK47 rifle.
Also, skirmishes were reported in Boron and Jereng in Demsa and Girei local government areas believed to be a Fulani/farmers’ clash that left many dead and wounded.
The gunmen, suspected to be armed robbers, attacked the bureau de change at the Jambutu motor park police station. According to an eyewitness, the attack took place at about 7.30 p.m. when two young men on motorcycles started shooting into the air to scare people and then opened fire on their victims at close range.
