The Super Eagles will today (Friday) depart from Nigeria to Monrovia, the capital of Liberia, for a friendly game scheduled to hold on Sunday against the Lone Star. It will be the team’s fourth friendly encounter since Stephen Keshi took charge of the team late last year.
The Eagles played goalless draw with the Palanca Negras of Angola in a friendly game in Abuja on Wednesday as the southern African team prepare to feature in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. Keshi says he needs more top grade games to help him select the best of his Team B players as Nigeria prepare for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda on February 29.
Media Officer of the Nigeria Football Federation, Demola Olajire, told our correspondent that the nationwide strike would not affect the team’s movement on Friday.
“The international flights are still working so we don’t expect any hitch in their movement to Liberia. It is important we honour the arrangement to avoid any complication in the teams’ programmes,” Olajire said.
Keshi, who was pleased with the Eagles’ performance on Wednesday but demands more from the players, said the team would be better with time.
He said, “I think they did appreciably well against an Angola side that starred professionals who have been together for over four years. We only had about three weeks in camp and we can only improve with more games and time.”
