Obasanjo, S-West PDP chieftains condemn Boko Haram
LEADERS of the Peoples’ Democratic Party, PDP, in the Southwest including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday condemned the activities of the Boko Haram sect, saying it was the time the Federal Government clamped down on them.
The leaders who also included the Zonal Chairman and Secretary, Tajudeen Oladipo and Oluwaropo Adesanya; the ex-governors of Ondo, Oyo and Ekiti states, Olusegun Agagu, Adebayo Alao-Akala and Olusegun Oni called on government to deal with the sect once and for all.
In a communique at the end of a meeting at Obasanjo Hilltop Mansion in Abeokuta, the Southwest Party Zonal Executive Committee resolved that the people should stand behind President Goodluck Jonathan against the deadly sect.
The communique by the Zonal Chairman and the Secretary, Zonal Chairman and Secretary, Tajudeen Oladipo and Oluwaropo Adesanya; said: “The meeting reviewed the state of the nation with special focus on recent happenings around the country. The meeting resolved to stand by Mr. President in his efforts to bring the situation to normal and ensure the safety of lives and property.
“The meeting condemned the activities of the Boko Haram sect for wanton destruction of lives and property and therefore appealed to all well-meaning Nigerians to cooperate with security agencies to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book”.
However, former Governor of Oyo State, Adebayo Alao-Akala, called on President Goodluck Jonathan to disregard the call to sack all the service chiefs, saying, that would not solve the problem of insecurity in the country.
Akala who addressed newsmen after the meeting said: “Sacking security chiefs is not the solution. I will not support the idea of sacking the security chiefs.”
