The
National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations on Thursday urged the
Federal Government to heed the cries of Nigerians and revert the pump
price of petrol to N65 per litre.
NACOMYO said it was imperative for government to respect popular opinion in accordance with democratic principle.
In a statement in Abeokuta by its National
Secretary-General, Alhaji Kamal’ddin Akintunde, the organisation noted
that Nigerians were not opposed to policies that would advance the
fortunes of the country.
He said, “But government must adopt the doctrine of due process in taking decision.
“Government should set machinery in motion to take
input from segments of the society before taking a decision on any vexed
issue.
“Government must adopt the doctrine of due process in
deciding on an issue that impacts on people’s economic life of the
nation as a whole.”
The organisation en urged leaders to be magnanimous
and avail themselves of the dialogue option, noting that “a roundtable
is the key to resolving the impasse under a civil setting.”
It commended the organised labour for its action aimed at saving people from alleged draconian policies.
NACOMYO also implored Labour and civil society groups
to remain orderly and guard against vandalism so that the essence of
the ongoing struggle would not be defeated.
