Bomb explosions: Security tightens in Lagos
Security has been tightened around military formations in Lagos, following Tuesday’s attack on two of its formations in Kawo, Kaduna State by members of the Boko Haram sect.
Consequently, search on vehicles going in and coming out of military formations has intensified, while those who do not have cogent reasons for being at the formations were turned back, with searches also conducted on individuals visiting the formations.
At the Ikeja Cantonment, for instance, vehicles which usually took the route to and fro the Oshodi expressway, were forced to turn back as the gate at the Oshodi end was shut.
The search on vehicles entering the cantonment caused a hitch in the free flow of traffic as there was a long queue.
Lagos State Police Command was also not left out, as it also restricted vehicles from entering the command headquarters. Visitors had to park their vehicles poles away from the command and walked the rest. Vehicles had to make use of other routes as they were deprived from driving through the front of the command. It has also evacuated vehicles from its premises, thereby giving a clearer view of the area.
A senior army officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said a proactive measure had been put in place by the authorities concerned.
It would be recalled that the state government ordered the removal of abandoned vehicles within the state secretariat and other strategic government premises, following the rising incidents of bomb explosions in the northern part of the country.
