Borno creates jobs to fight Boko Haram
TO overcome Boko Haram insurgency and insecurity of lives and property in Borno State, Governor Kashim Shettima is to embark on a massive job creation through infrastructural development in agricultural and education sectors.
Shettima made the declaration at the recent joint session of principal officers of the Borno State House of Assembly, members of State Executive Council, SEC, and top government officials at the signing of N149 billion appropriation bill into law at Government House, Maiduguri.
He said Boko Haram insurgency in the state can only be overcome with the rescuing of the state’s collapsed education system; and massive job creation projects in the agriculture, environment and education sectors.
Such “rescuing and full implementation” of job creation projects in the three sectors of the economy, he said, must be collective responsibilities of both the state government and members of the state
House of Assembly that are representing their people in the 28 constituencies of Borno.
He said to rescue the already collapsed education system, a Volunteer Teaching Scheme, VOTS, is to be launched with the active participation of teachers from the University of Maiduguri, UNIMAID, and himself (Shettima) to teach in the classrooms.
Time, he however noted, is not on the side of his administration, because the state government has only two years to address the problems of poverty, unemployment and education collapse in
transforming the lives of people that voted him into office last April.
