Nyako wins Adamawa gov election

Former Adamawa State Governor Murtala Nyako has won the governorship election in the state for a second term in office
In the Saturday election, Nyako polled 302,986 votes to beat his Action Congress of Nigeria opponent, Markus Gundiri, who polled 260, 405 votes. The candidate for the Congress for Progressive Change, Brig.-Gen. Buba Marwa (retd), scored 107,564 votes to came third.
Nyako won in 14 of the 21 local goverments while the ACN candidate won in eight.
The returning officer, Prof. Mohammed Mohammed, who is the Vice-Chancellor of the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, announced the results in Yola on Sunday.
Nyako was one of the five governors sent packing after the Supreme Court declared that their tenure had expired penultimate Friday.
Meanwhile, President Goodluck Jonathan and the Peoples Democratic Party on Sunday congratulated Nyako on his victory.
A statement from the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, said Jonathan urged Nyako “to receive the fresh mandate given to him by the people of Adamawa State for a second term in office as a call to further duty in the service of his people and an immense opportunity to carry forward the policies, projects and programmes initiated during his first term to promote progress and development in Adamawa State.”
The President also commended the members of the PDP National Executive Council, members of the state executive of the party and all stakeholders of the party in Adamawa State “for working very hard to ensure that Admiral Nyako won convincingly on Saturday.”
Jonathan also praised the Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies for the success of the election.
