Robbers strike in Delta, kill 4; Bomb Police Station in Kogi state; Invade Murtala Mohammed Airport
RESIDENTS of Effurun and Warri in Delta State were thrown into mourning, on Thursday, following the killing of four persons, including a bank accountant and one of his customers by robbers.
The victims were the latest casualties of robbery incidents, which had been prevalent in the state in recent times.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the four-man robbery gang struck at about 1.10 p.m on the Effurun-Sapele road in Uvwie Local Government Area of the state, after trailing the accountant of a bank, identified as A. Kelechi and shot him dead in his ash colour Nissan Sunny car with registration number EP 343 KRD.
After killing Kelechi, it was gathered that the robbers also shot dead one S. Clement in his red colour Toyota Carina E with registration number AQ 357 KPE, who was said to have withdrawn an undisclosed amount of money from a bank in the area.
Security sources disclosed that the robbers, who shot sporadically in their attempt to escape, further killed one Josiah Damodu on his okada and a yet-to-be identified woman.
In another development, an unidentified police corporal was killed on Wednesday when gunmen, suspected to be armed robbers, bombed a police station at Ogori in Ogori/Magongo Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Nigerian Tribune gathered that the hoodlums stormed the area in the night, fired sporadically into the air before invading the police station.
It was further learnt that the robbers bombed the armoury and carted away all the arms and ammunition. The policeman was gunned down when he attempted to engage the hoodlums in a gun battle.
Though the PPRO confirmed the incident, he said information about it was still sketchy as he was yet to be officially briefed on the matter.
Meanwhile, Armed robbers, at about 8.30p.m. on Wednesday, unleashed terror at the international wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Ikeja, Lagos making away $600,000 (N95 million).
The robbers, having beaten all security checks around the airport, headed straight to the area where bureau de change operators carried out their business and started shooting sporadically to scare away people.
In the melee, a female passenger was hit by stray bullet while all airport users, including passengers waiting to catch their flights and those arriving scampered for safety.
The armed robbers subsequently robbed the bureau de change operators of $600, 000.
