Bayelsa house sacks speaker, elects new one, sack new speaker and re-elect Old one, all in one week

Following the intervention of President Goodluck Jonathan, the 16 aggrieved members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly who impeached the speaker Kumbowei Benson and elected a new one, have reversed themselves on the matter.
Benson was impeached last Monday June 4 on allegations of high-handedness and failure to carry members along in the running of the House.
Jonathan, who was received by Dickson at the Port-Harcourt International Airport, Omagwa, was immediately flown to his Otuoke hometown in Ogbia Local Government Area of the state on Friday at about 3.15pm, in an Air force helicopter.
The president who in the past had publicly expressed a personal conviction to avoid interfering in the matters of the state, could not resist bringing the full might of his office this time due to the high wired politics that led to the impeachment of the Speaker.
A source said, ‘‘The president expressed concern over the crisis that had engulfed his home state’s legislature and from all indications, the embattled speaker may regain his position by this week with the intervention of Jonathan and other chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)”, who were in attendance during the meeting that lasted several hours at the private residence of Mr. President.”
