As Nigerians mourn, the Eagles coach, Stephen Keshi dedicated their victory to the families of those who lost their lives in the Dana Airline crash in Lagos.
Super Eagles on Sunday struggled to defeat the Brave Warriors of Namibia in the 2014 World Cup qualifier.
Nigeria secured a 1-0 victory through Ike Uche in the 81st minute at the U.J. Esuene stadium, Calabar.
The Eagles coach did not forget the plane crash in his analysis and said, “We heard there was a crash in Lagos, it is sad. We honestly want to dedicate this victory to the family of the victims. We pray that the family members will have the strength to move on. We mourn with them. We ought to be enjoying this victory, but it is not important now with this kind of calamity. We pray their souls rest in peace.”
At the post match press briefing, Keshi added, “You all saw the game; we wasted a lot of opportunities in the first half, but you should note that these days you don’t have small teams especially when it comes to Nigeria. Every country playing against Nigeria will double their efforts.
“We knew this was going to happen, we have been working on it. We worked on how we would move at a fast pace with the ball and get result.
“This is the first time the players are coming to know one another. We have seen a lot today; we would go back and analyse it ourselves.”
