Kaduna corpers train for emergency management

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), on Monday, said it was training National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members on disaster and risk management.
Muhammadu Sani-Sidi, the Director General of the agency, said at the NYSC orientation camp in Kaduna that those trained would serve as members of the NEMA Emergency Management Vanguard.
He said all the 2, 503 corps members undergoing orientation at the camp would serve in the vanguard.
According to him, the initiative was to enhance community resilience, reduce the vulnerability of the people and promote quick response to emergencies.
He said the corps members would serve as agents of change, adding that their contribution would enhance the performance of the agency.
“The NEMA/NYSC-EMV Programme, which took off in 2007/2008 in only eight states, has blossomed to 36 states with thousands of corps members being trained on disaster risk reduction and basic emergency response during their service period,” he said.
