The condolence register being signed

The late Ghanaian president John Atta Mills, was buried after a day-long funeral which held at the Independence Square in Accra on Friday August 11, 2012.

About 16 African Heads of State including President Jonathan and the United States Secretary of State Hillary Clinton attended the burial ceremony in Accra’s Independence Square.

Mills was a Ghanaian politician who was President of Ghana from 2009 until his death in 2012. A few months prior to his death, he was praised by U.S. President Barack Obama for making Ghana a ‘good news story’ that had good democratic credentials. Many people gathered in the Ghanaian capital Accra to attend the state funeral for President Atta Mills, who died suddenly in July.
