UPDATE: Puzzle over Goldie’s death

The death of 31-year-old singer, Susan Oluwabimpe Harvey, came as a shock to her family, friends and fans. Prior to her death on Valentine’s Day, Goldie had wished her Twitter followers a happy lovers’ day celebration. She tweeted, “Happy Valentine’s day to all my fellows up in here… love today and always… xxx”
Although death is an inevitable phenomenon in human existence, the suddenness of the late pop singer’s death makes one ponder on what could have led to her untimely demise. According to the official statement from her record label, Kennis Music, the late singer complained of a severe headache shortly after her arrival from the United States where she attended the Grammy Awards.

The statement read, “With a deep sense of loss, we announce the shocking death of our darling music star, Goldie Harvey. Goldie, 31, died on Thursday after she complained of a severe headache shortly after her arrival from the United States where she went to witness the Grammy Awards.
“She was rushed from her Park View, Ikoyi, Lagos residence to her official hospital, Reddington, Victoria Island, Lagos, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival at exactly 7.30pm. We consider this period a gloomy moment for us and the entire Nigerian music industry in view of the circumstances in which she passed away; the abundance of talent she exhibited in her short but eventful music career and the various opportunities her trip to the United States of America would have availed her.
“She is survived by her father, step-mother, brothers and sisters.”
However, combing through her twitter account, it seems the late singer may have been battling an ailment. She went for a comprehensive medical examination, including a pap smear but did not make the result known.
She had tweeted on January 13, “I think getting a pap smear must be one of the most embarrassing aspects in doing a full medical. Sigh, but it has to be done. Hahahaha! See how I was giggling and making noise she! Loool! #invasivethings, sighs.  Did a scan too! Eggs are good, uterus is healthy, and smear result should be ready next week. Thank God.”
Her friend and fellow Big Brother housemate, Prezzo’s Facebook post further hints that the late pop singer battled an ailment.
The post read, “God saw you were getting tired, and a cure was not meant to be, so he put his arms around you and whispered come with me. With tearful eyes we watched you as we saw you pass away. Although we love you deeply, we could not make you stay. Your golden heart stopped beating, hard-working hands at rest. God broke our hearts to prove to us… He only takes the best.”
On the first day of the month, her tweet said, “Happy new month my people!!! May we see many more months in peace, good health, happiness and love. Make each day count. It starts now.”
She wished her late friend and name sake, Susan Yusuf known as Susy Q, a posthumous birthday 10 days before her own death. Goldie said, “Happy posthumous birthday to my dear friend and namesake, Susan. May God continue to grant your soul peace. Susan Yusuf, one of my oldest friends, Suzy Q, would have been a year older today had her life not been brutally cut short on Feb. 11, 2012.”
A day to her death, she tweeted that her dream was to become a content producer for a major television station. However, the cold hands of death snatched her before realising her dreams.
Shortly after her death, news made the rounds that the singer died as a result of doping complications.
With all the mystery surrounding her death, only an autopsy can shed light.
