Malawi scared of Nigeria – Chukwu

The recent call by Malawi coach, Tom Saintfiet, for a change of venue for the September 7 World Cup qualifier in Calabar has been described as a reaction of a scared team looking for excuses before their defeat.
Former Super Eagles coach, Christian Chukwu, said Malawi were only trying to turn the pressure on Nigeria before the game is played.
Malawi had requested FIFA to force Nigeria make a change of venue for the crucial game, citing insecurity in Calabar.

“There is nothing wrong with Calabar as a venue for the match. We have been playing our games in Calabar and there has never been any case of violence or threat to life before, during and after our games,” Chukwu said on Thursday.
“We know what Saintfiet is trying to do. He is scared and knows he will fail; the Flames of Malawi will be quenched on that day. He needs to find a ready excuse for his employers before failing in Nigeria.
“When we went to Malawi for the first leg, we accepted all that they offered to us. We didn’t complain. If Calabar seem unsafe, Saintfiet is not the one to call for the change of venue.
“If they feel they cannot withstand the defeat, they should just not bother to come to Nigeria and we’ll be glad to walk over them.”
