Nigerian female rappers are scared –Weird MC

Weird MC
PUNCH - The name Shola Idowu may not immediately ring a bell but at the mention of Weird MC, songs like Allen Avenue and Ijoya come to mind.
The pioneer female rap artiste told Saturday Beats that female rap artistes in Nigeria have a mortal dread.
She said, “They let me know about their element of fear; maybe because of how I relate with a lot of them and because of my demeanour they find it so easy to approach me. They tell me that it is a male dominated industry and I agree with them. It is not just peculiar to Nigeria; it is so in a lot of industries in the world. It is about you striking out and believing that you have to stand out.”
Citing herself as an example, she said she had to fight her way to the top back then when the industry was dominated by men.

People expect gospel artistes to perform for free –Paul Praise

Paul Praise

Popular gospel artiste, Paul Praise, established himself in the short while he got into the music industry. He launched himself into the industry in 2008 and stuck to gospel music. Five years down the line, he has no regrets. However, he told Saturday Beats that a major challenge of gospel artistes is that people expect them to perform for free, forgetting that they have bills to pay.
He said, “The greatest challenge is people’s expectations of gospel musicians. Most people expect that we are not supposed to get paid because of our genre of music; they believe we should do it for free since it is the work of God. The truth is that our equipment is bought with money and the musicians and the band members have families that they need to take care of. Sometimes when people call and ask how much we would charge for a particular performance, they feel shocked at the amount we mention. They remind us that it is the work of God but they fail to understand that we all buy things from the same market as everybody else.”
Sharing a near death experience that got him closer to God, Paul Praise said he almost died after a surgery and did not wake until he was about to be taken to the morgue.
“In 2008, I was in coma for about eight hours but God brought me back to life through the prayers of men of God. I was sick and went for check up, I had a boil and a surgery was performed to remove the boil. After the surgery, I did not wake up for eight hours until when they were about to take me to the morgue,” Paul Praise said.

NFF didn’t offer me Eagles job – Zambia coach

Renard

Zambia coach Herve Renard has denied the Nigeria Football Federation wanted him to replace Stephen Keshi as Super Eagles manager.
Keshi had claimed that the NFF offered the job to the Chipolopolo manager during the South Africa 2013 Africa Cup of Nations won by Nigeria on Sunday.  The Eagles beat surprise finalists Burkina Faso 1-0  to lift their third Africa Cup of Nations title.
“After we played Ethiopia they (NFF) called me to a meeting. The board members and the President of the NFF, they told me that I could not read the game very well and that the changes I was making were not the right changes,” Keshi was quoted as saying.
“They asked me if I was not watching the Zambia coach and how he does his changes and how he coaches his team.”
However, Frenchman Renard denied having any discussion with  any Nigerian officials over Eagles job.
“I don’t know anything about this story,” Renard, who has 18 months remaining on his Zambian contract, told  Zambia Daily Mail on Thursday.

According to the official statement from her record label, Kennis Music, the late singer complained of a severe headache shortly after her arrival from the United States where she attended the Grammy Awards.

FG may sack pensions boss, Maina

Abdullahi-Maina pension

Indications emerged on Friday that the Federal Government may soon wield the big stick against the embattled Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Force, Alhaji Abdulrasheed Maina.
This is coming just as President Goodluck Jonathan ordered the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Alhaji Isa Sali, to begin disciplinary action against Maina.
Sali was directed to discipline Maina for allegedly absconding from duties, an offence the Presidency says is punishable by dismissal.
The directive came at the expiration of the two-day ultimatum given the President by the Senate to sack the pension boss.
The upper legislative chamber said Jonathan risked dire consequences if he failed to end Maina’s stay in office.
Senate President, David Mark, said this after a debate on a motion entitled, “Dismissal of Mr. Abdulrasheed Maina for refusal to appear before the Senate.”
The debate was sponsored by the Leader of the Senate, Victor Ndoma-Egba (SAN), and 107 senators. The Senate has 109 members.

Truck crushes 15-year-old pupil while on teacher’s errand

Kemi

Tragedy struck in front of Lafenwa Comprehensive High School, Ota, Ogun State, last Thursday, when a 15-year-old pupil, Miss Kemi Obanla, was crushed to death by a truck driver.
It was learnt that Kemi was killed while running errands for her class teacher.
It was alleged that the teacher had asked Kemi to go and buy cooked ‘ofada’ rice for her around 10am on the day.
An eyewitness, who craved anonymity, said the SS1 pupil was knocked down by a truck while crossing the road.
He said Kemi died while she was being rushed to the hospital.
“The girl was knocked down when she was crossing the road. After hitting her, the driver of the vehicle attempted to escape but the youths around apprehended him.

Life and times of Susan ‘Goldie’ Harvey

Goldie. Photo: goldieharvey.net

Growing up in a family where music was virtually the only bright spot in a tripartite existence that revolved round home, school and church, it did not come as much surprise that Susan Oluwabimpe Harvey now known as Goldie chose to be a singer, songwriter and performer.
If it was to give vent to a childhood social denial, available indices indicate that Goldie is making a resounding success of her career choice. If it was to prove to her hitherto unbending dad that her sometimes rebellious streak as a teen was just a quest for her true essence, she has equally succeeded. And everybody must indeed be very proud of this young lady because less than five years into her musical odyssey, the crown of Nigeria’s nonpareil pop diva now nestles snugly on her golden mane.
Since her emergence onto the pop culture radar a few years ago, Goldie has cut large swaths though the fields of musical accomplishments; exemplifying a special conception of musical heroine who can say or show anything while providing a view of the bold, confrontational and liberated woman. Colourful and cerebral, Goldie’s musical strength and depth, sensuality and serenity have appropriated her as the high water mark that other female singers have to live up to. Add to that mix the fact that the multiple awards-winning singer has created a smouldering, public persona that borders on the eccentric and eclectic, otherwise creative and precise, but engaging enough to keep you talking about her. Despite the mixed reactions to her musical style and outrĂ© outlook, Goldie has fitted perfectly into the role of Nigeria’s most consistent female performer of the moment.

N469bn police pension fund scam: They want me dead – Maina

N469bn police pension fund scam: They want me dead – Maina

Less than 24 hours after the Senate asked President Goodluck Jonathan to fire the embattled Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, Dr. Abdulrasheed Maina, the embattled Maina, spoke from his hiding yesterday, alleging that the pension cabal was after his life and not just his sack.
Before reaching Maina on phone yesterday, sources in his office had told Daily Sun that the task team boss hadmaintained a low profile, shortly after he was declared wanted by the police, on the instruction of the Senate.
One of the sources said: “If you recall, the last time he appeared at the Senate, security was provided for him. But as we speak, all the guards have been completely withdrawn and the seeming involvement of the Senate and the police in the alleged plot to get at him at all cost, is a further indication that it will be suicidal for him to show up or even appear in the public for whatever reasons.

Maina: Presidency tells Senate to follow civil service rule

…Presidency tells Senate to follow civil service rule
The Presidency has replied the Senate that issued a two-day ultimatum to President Goodluck Jonathan to fire the Chairman of the Pension Reform Task Team, Abdulrasheed Maina, or face its wrath.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, said Maina’s fate could only be decided based on laid down civil service rule. Abati also said President Goodluck Jonathan was not backing Maina against the Senate contrary to the general feeling.
Abati acknowledged that the Senate had the constitutional right to summon anybody since nobody was above the law. Likewise, as a man that believes in the rule of law, the President believes that laid down procedure should be followed in addressing issues. He said the normal procedure was for the Head of Service of the Federation to take a decision concerning a civil servant according to civil service rule.
“The Senate has constitutional power to summon anybody. If such person failed to appear before them, the lawmakers are also empowered to issue warrant of arrest against the person. “The President has not in anyway stood in the way of the Senate in inviting Maina.
You will recall that the police even declared him wanted. “Maina is a civil servant. If he has done something that amounts to a breach of civil service rule, the appropriate office to do the right thing and ensure that due process is followed is the office of the Head of Service of the Federation. “Nobody should suggest that the President is backing Maina. It is not an issue for the President.
“There are laid down procedures for handling situations like this. The President believes in due process. It is a matter for the civil service to handle. The President does not have to be disciplining civil servants personally,” Abati said.

No hope for African Pope –Benedict’s brother

No hope for African Pope –Benedict’s brother

Pope Benedict’s elder brother, the Rev. Georg Ratzinger has given insight into why the coveted position of Catholic Pontiff may elude Africa as the Church begins the process of appointing a new pope. Much speculation has focused on whether Benedict’s successor might come from Africa or Latin America, rather than Europe, where Roman Catholic congregations are shrinking.
The pope’s brother, the Rev. Georg Ratzinger, speaking in Regensburg, Germany, said he expected to see a pope chosen from outside Europe one day but not just yet. “I’m certain a pope will come from the new continents but whether it will be now, I have my doubts,” he said. “In Europe, we have many very able people, and the Africans are still not so well known and maybe do not have the experience yet.”
Among those considered frontrunners for the role are Cardinal Angelo Scola, archbishop of Milan; Canadian Cardinal Marc Ouellet, who heads the Vatican’s office of bishops; Cardinal Leonardo Sandri, an Argentinian, Cardinal Peter Turkson of Ghana and Cardinal Francis Arinze of Nigeria. Whoever gets the nod, the selection of a new pontiff is expected to go smoothly. “We’re not going to have a problem of two competing popes. If Pope Benedict still wanted to have influence, he wouldn’t have stepped down,” said senior Vatican communications adviser Greg Burke. While not quite unprecedented, Benedict’s resignation is certainly historic.
The last pope to step down before his death was Gregory XII, who in 1415 quit to end a civil war within the church in which more than one man claimed to be pope.

ULCER; Causes And Cure

Peptic/stomach ulcers are open sores that develop on the inside lining of your stomach and the upper portion of your small intestine. The most common symptom of a peptic ulcer is abdominal pain.
Peptic ulcers that occur on the inside of the stomach are called gastric ulcers while the peptic ulcers that occur inside the hollow tube (esophagus) where food travels from your throat to your stomach are called esophageal ulcers. Peptic ulcers that affect the inside of the upper portion of your small intestine (duodenum) are called duodenal ulcers.
It’s a myth that spicy foods or a stressful job can cause peptic ulcers. Doctors now know that a bacterial infection or some medications and not stress or diet cause most peptic ulcers.

Why Do Yoruba People Have Low Facebook Name Self Esteem - Kemi Olunloyo

"Why Do Yoruba People Have Low Facebook Name Self Esteem?" Ex Oyo State Governor's Daughter, Omololu Olunloyo Asks.

She has created a lot of buzz again because of her write up which you'll find below, and the Yorubas are yet to stop cursing her and calling her all sorts of names. She wrote;

Nigerians really irritate me on Facebook when they alter their names into these eyesore names. As a member of the Community standards team at Facebook, u are not allowed a fake name.

Many Nigerians in the Yoruba tribe where I am from, disgustingly alter the spellings of their names to horrible proportions. These beautiful African names are defaced due to lack of self esteem. I reported 10 last week on FB and they were told to produce ID before their pages could be re-opened.

They got mad at me. I clearly warned them beforehand. Even ppl with other fake nicknames need to be reported if you see them without a real name. I don't see this trend in other tribes in Nigeria. #SMH

"TB Joshua rescued me from alcohol, drugs and mental issues' - actor Hanks Anuku

The actor and former addict tells how TB Joshua rescued him from alcohol, drugs and the mental problems that plagued him for many years in a recent interview. Hanks battled alcohol and drug addiction for years and his mental state deteriorated over time. The former SA to Delta governor, Uduaghan, who has since relocated to Ghana tells his story...
"Yes I got my healing through TB Joshua. It is our Lord's doing. I never believed in miracles until this happened to me. I was having issues with mentality for over seven years, you will notice I have not been that frequent in movies for long. Even when I was special assistant to our dear governor, I was not in a good state of mind and this affected my work in the government before I was advised to seek for solution in Ghana. I spent so much money visiting hospitals, orthodox and unorthodox doctors without positive result. Until I was introduced to TB Joshua. I was only watching his TV programme in Ghana and was healed. I put my faith into it just like the woman with the issue of blood and knew that I would be healed and I got my healing. I am now a mentally stable man. I have dropped drinking and smoking habit, glory be to God."

During the lecture, he focused on his reason for launching the Obasanjo Foundation in London.
While addressing journalists after the programme, Mr. Obasanjo said he was able to tackle corruption, during his tenure, to the satisfaction of some people and disenchantment of others.
He said he disagreed with the notion of keeping mum while things go wrong in Nigeria as it would not help the situation.

RIP Goldie. Her label Kennis Music release official statement

Statement from the CEO of Kennis Music, Kenny Ogungbe pictured above with the late singer
“With a deep sense of loss, we announce the shocking death of our darling music star, Goldie Harvey. Goldie, 31, died on Thursday after she complained of a severe headache shortly after her arrival from the United States where she went to witness the Grammy Award. She was rushed from her Park View, Ikoyi, Lagos residence to her official hospital, Reddington, Victoria Island, Lagos, where doctors pronounced her dead on arrival at exactly 7:30pm in the evening.
We consider this period a gloomy moment for us and the entire Nigerian music industry in view of the circumstance in which she passed away; the abundance of talent she exhibited in her short but eventful music career and the various opportunities her trip to the United States of America would have availed her. She is survived by her father, step- mother, brothers and sisters. We deeply sympathise with her family and fans all over the world and very grateful to all and sundry, especially, the vibrant Nigerian media for their concern and prompt reportage. We shall keep everybody informed as events unfold as we are devastated by the sudden loss.”
Goldie's remains has been deposited at the mortuary. I'm not blogging today...will only bring you update about her untimely demise. Let's use the whole day to mourn her. Goldie and I recently became friends after she called me for a heart to heart. She was also best friends with one of my best friends, Denrele. RIP, angel. Only God knows why this happened.

“We are irrevocably committed to arresting Maina as soon as we lay our hands on him. We will arrest and take him before the Senate.

On the allegation that Maina was being guarded by the police, Mba said “he has no police officer in his entourage to the best of my knowledge.
