RESIDENTS living around Gwange area of Maidu-guri,the Borno State
capital, were, on Sunday, thrown into confusion, following an explosion
targeted at the patrol vehicle of the Joint Task Force (JTF) on
Operation Restore Order in Borno State.
According to a resident, who spoke to the Nigerian Tribune on phone,
seconds after the explosion, the JTF vehicle was hit, but he could not
tell whether there was injury or death, as soldiers were said to have
immediately cordoned off the area and prevented anyone from approaching
the scene of the blast.
He said soldiers were looking angry, which made a lot of people to
flee the area, following past experience after such happenings.
Nigerian Tribune spoke with Colonel Victor Ebhslpne, the operation
commander of the JTF, who said he was at the scene of the blast, adding
that there were no injuries.
Also while speaking, the Borno State Commissioner of Police, Mr
Simeon Midenda, told the Nigerian Tribune that he was informed of the
bomb blast around Gwange area and sent the divisional police officer in
the area to confirm and report back to him.
According to the commissioner, he learnt that the blast was targeted
at the patrol vehcle of the JTF but he was yet to be briefed on the
incident.
