FG woos investors to build new MMIA terminal

Thirty-three years after the nation’s premier airport, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, was built by the Olusegun Obasanjo military administration, the Federal Government has indicated interest in building a second terminal in collaboration with foreign investors, OYETUNJI ABIOYE reports.
UCCOUR may soon come the way of passengers travelling through the nation’s flagship airport, Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, as the Federal Government is planning to invite foreign investors to build a second international terminal at the airport.
The Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, Mr. Goerge Uriese, has said the government will embark on a road show in April this year to get foreign investors to build a second international terminal in Lagos.
He explained that the plan would also allow foreign investors to partake in the ongoing remodelling and development of infrastructure at the nation’s airports. Although some investors from Belgium had, two years ago, come to carry out a feasibility study on a second international terminal in Lagos, Uriesi did not give specific details about the arrangement under which the new investors will come.
The FAAN MD said government was the one funding the current airport remodelling project and that there was the need to partner the private sector in order to bring the airports up to international standards.
