The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Hafiz Ringim, has thrown his
weight behind the proposal by management of the National Youth Service
Corps, NYSC, to establish a distress call centre at its headquarters in
Abuja.
Ringim, who gave his support when the Director-General of NYSC,
Brigadier-General Nnamdi Okore-Affia, paid a courtesy call on him in his
office at Louis Edet House, assured of the full cooperation of the
Police Force towards the realisation of the centre.
He described the idea as a step in the right direction, in view of
the present security situation in the country and the need to ensure the
safety of corps members who in recent times had fallen victims of
unwarranted and unprovoked attacks by hoodlums.
Earlier, the Director-General of NYSC, Brig-General Okore-Affia,
acknowledged the long-standing relationship between the Nigeria Police
Force and National Youth Service Corps.
He commended the Force for its vital role of ensuring the security of
lives and property of corps members and other members of camp
communities during orientation exercises.
Okore-Affia also called for synergy and interconnectivity between the
NYSC distress call centre and that of the Police, just as he requested
for phone numbers of all area commands, state commands and divisional
offices of the Police, which the IGP agreed to make available.
He equally solicited the continued cooperation of the
Inspector-General of Police during the forthcoming 2011 Batch ‘C’ NYSC
Orientation course scheduled to hold between November 15 and December 6
2011, throughout the country.
