It
has been over a year since Samuel Eleng and his wife, Favour, lost
their two-year-old twin daughter at the Children’s department of the
Canaan Land, Winners Chapel headquarters, Sango-Ota in Ogun State, and
yet, there is no sign of the girl.
The couple are still stunned by the mysterious disappearance of Praise on April 17, 2011, an Easter Sunday.
Although the Church’s founder, David Oyedepo, was said to have shown
support to the family, however, Samuel alleged that the Church had been
meddling with the case to prevent it from going public.
“We handed our girls, Praise and Glory, over to the school teachers
under whose custody many other children were kept. They gave us two tags
as proof that we had our children under their care for that day,” said
Samuel.
However, by the end of the church service, Praise had gone missing from the class in which she was left.
Even the teachers in charge of the twin girls were not in sight, as
they were said to have all gone for service as at the time the couple
went to get their daughters.
“I saw my wife around the vicinity of the Children’s section, she was crying. She told me that Praise was missing,” he said.

Armed Forces ready for any crisis – Minister
Defence Minister, Dr. Bello Mohammed, said, yesterday, that the Armed
Forces were in a state of combat readiness needed to surmount all
issues of insecurity, internal or external. He said government has
ensured this by funding the requirements of the different arms of the
military.
Speaking at the ministerial platform organised by the Ministry of
Information and Communication in Abuja, the minister noted that the
state of combat readiness was achieved following the repairs and
upgrading of a number of Armoured Fighting Vehicles and Armoured
Personnel Carriers for the Nigerian Army.
He also said the acquisitions of the warship, NNS Thunder, and a number of Shaldag Fast Patrol Boats for the Navy, in addition to existing weaponry for the two services, had made them combat-ready.
The minister said the F7Ni Supersonic Jet fighter had been acquired by the Nigeria Air Force, even as M-35-Helicopters had been retrofitted, while Super Puma Helicopters and Alpha-jets had undergone upgrading and re-inducted.
Mohammed said: “We (Ministry of Defence) have also refurbished some of our C-130H Aircraft in the NAF inventory.”
He noted that the ministry placed great emphasis on the welfare of personnel of the armed forces.

What is MAVIN all about and what inspired it?
It is spelt MAVIN Records and not Marvin. If you check the dictionary it simply refers to somebody that is a genius or a champion, a sensation, hotshot, superstar, wizkid or whatever . So basically, we decided to call the company that name because we are all geniuses in our different fields coming together in a record company.
How much would you say the event of the past few weeks have helped in the emergence of Mavin Records.
Basically, we do not believe in channeling our energies towards what has happened in the past. But basically to put up your energy to transform our Ffuture. We wouldn’t say we don’t have the memories of things that has happened but we just pray to God that as we are moving forward that such situations never occur again and we just pray for the best.

Why there is poor service delivery —Airtel, Etisalat, Glo, MTN
THE
four major telecommunications companies in Nigeria – Airtel, Etisalat,
Globacom and MTN – have stated reasons for their inability to meet
quality of service standards, promising to make investments that will
immensely improve service quality.
This was contained in a joint statement signed by the networks, which was made available to the Nigerian Tribune, on the decision by the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to sanction them for failure to meet quality service standards.
According to the release, the main factor affecting quality of service was the absence of a reliable source of power, as every site was powered by two diesel generators 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
Another factor, according to the release, was “the frequent cuts of fibre networks which link all the sites.”
The recent trend towards the indiscriminate closure of sites by the government, in pursuit of multiple taxation of telecommunications infrastructure, was also said to be another setback to quality service delivery.
The telecoms companies also listed security as “a prevalent threat to our operating environment,” adding that their employees had been, many tmes, physically assaulted and killed.
“We are all as equally frustrated and concerned about the failures to meet customer expectations and needs, with respect to the quality of service. Nigeria deserves and needs first class telecommunications networks.
“We, thus, apologise unreservedly to you, our customers, for those occasions when you have been disappointed or inconvenienced by a lapse or failure to deliver the requisite level of quality of service,” the statement read.
The companies said fines would not bring about the desired service improvements, while appealing to the NCC, the National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency, the Minister of Communication Technology, the National Assembly and the office of the National Security Adviser to put in place, an environment conducive for substantial investments.

Okonjo-Iweala made the request during an oversight visit to her office, by members of the House Committee on Finance.

``We have an external borrowing plan that we have put to the National Assembly, as we are required to do and I am really counting on your help to get out the borrowing plan as quickly as possible.''
Police torture FRSC official to death in Bayelsa
BARELY a month after a police officer (names withheld) was allegedly
accused of gunning down an official of the Nigeria Prisons Service
(NPS), while celebrating the purchase of a car around Nikton road, in
Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, another official of the Federal Road Safety
Corps (FRSC), identified as Bassey Nnoyo, had been allegedly tortured to
death by officers of the state Anti-Robbery Squad.
The incident, which occurred on Tuesday, the Nigerian Tribune authoritatively gathered, was said to have thrown the state headquarters of the FRSC into mourning, on Wednesday, as the rank and file of the paramilitary agency clustered to discuss the death of Nnoyo.
Credible source informed the Nigerian Tribune that troubled ensued on Tuesday morning around Bayelsa State Secretariat Annex, when an unidentified FRSC official, who came for a programme from Sagbama Local Government unit, was trying to park his car inside the state office of the FRSC, adjacent to the state secretariat.
While waiting for another car to drive out of the road, a car allegedly driven by a police officer in mufti was hooting his horn for the FRSC official to give way, but the man declined, in his bid give way to the on-coming car.
The source said “as a result of the development, the policeman in mufti pulled the FRSC official out of his car and beat him mercilessly, a development which attracted his colleagues, who came out of their office to rescue him, thus leading to a free-for-all.”
According to the source, the policeman, when he sensed that he might be overpowered by the FRSC men, alerted the State Anti-Robbery Squad and about 10 policemen stormed the scene and started shooting indiscriminately.
Investigation revealed that some of the FRSC officials had to pull off their uniforms, with a view to hiding their identities, but the rampaging policemen caught up with Nnoyo and allegedly assaulted him before dragging him on the concrete road to their station for further beating.
Security source, who pleaded anonymity, told the Nigerian Tribune that the Nnoyo, billed to proceed on retirement in November 2012, died in the course of torture by officers of the SARS.
When contacted on Wednesday, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Chris Olakpe, who declined to confirm the development, however, said the matter had been resolved.

Drama as Hembe’s arraignment is stalled
The
anticipated arraignment of two members of the House of Representatives,
Herman Hembe and Ifeanyi Azubuogu, by the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission before a Federal High Court, Abuja, was stalled amid drama
on Thursday.
The development was due to a number of
factors, including Azubuogu’s absence from the court, as well as a
motion by the accused persons challenging the jurisdiction of the court
granting leave to the EFCC to try them.
Also, the lawyers told the court that they
were served with the opposing party’s motion on Wednesday, and that they
had not had enough time to respond.
The development prompted, Justice Abubakar Umar, to adjourn till May 28.
Hembe and Azubuogu were until recently, the
chairman and deputy chairman of the House of Representatives Committee
on Capital Market and Institutions, respectively.
They were in charge of the probe of the
near collapse of the capital market until a bribery allegation brought
against them by the Director-General of the Securities and Exchange
Commission, Ms Arunma Oteh, led to their ouster.

On
May 26, star actress, Funke Akindele, will be officially married to her
beau, Kehinde Oloyede Al-Maroof, a property developer. While the
actress has yet to make any public comment about the wedding, she spoke
with E-Punch on Wednesday and confessed to have found true love in
‘Kenny’ as she fondly calls him.
“I am no longer a kid and I know what it
means to be in love. I am in love and I am not ashamed to say so. This
is not a feeling you contrive, it comes naturally. My dear, this is true
love. And I have found it,” she gushes excitedly. Refusing to be
dragged into further talking about her man, Akindele quips, “Just be
happy for me, I have found true love.”
The news of the impending wedding of one of

media community since it broke on Sunday. Her publicist, Bigsam Media,
also issued a statement mid-week confirming that the news is true after
all. “We want to inform you officially as well, your darling actress

given Funke Akindele so far. The support has made her bigger than what
she used to be.”
Shocker for Jonathan: Northern govs defend Buhari
The
19 northern governors on Thursday rose in defence of the Presidential
candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change, Major-General
Muhammadu Buhari.
Buhari’s party on Wednesday had described
the Jonathan administration as the “most corrupt ever,” in response to
the Presidency and the Peoples Democratic Party’s attacks on his person
over a comment in which the retired General threatened bloodshed in 2015
if the government dared rig the elections.
The northern governors on Thursday said
Buhari’s comment was in order, observing that many eminent Nigerians had
made worse comments.
Chairman of the Northern Governors’ Forum,
Babangida Aliyu, during a question-and-answer session with journalists
after the Forum’s meeting in Kaduna, noted that Buhari had only sought
to keep the Federal Government on its toes in order to ensure a
free-and-fair election in 2015.
Aliyu is the governor of Niger State and a
member of the PDP. Like Aliyu, the majority of the northern governors
belong to the PDP.
The PDP had said that Buhari was bloodthirsty and suffering from “combat withdrawal syndrome.”
Aliyu, who spoke on behalf of his
colleagues, explained that what Buhari meant was that govenment should
not ‘go and do bad election.’
He noted that Buhari’s statement was
subject to different interpretation and cautioned eminent Nigerians
against further inflammatory statements that could heat up the polity.
He said, “In a democratic system every
individual has his ways and there are many of us whose ways of
communication are quite different from others. Give the same statement
to somebody, he may have used a different vocabulary.
“Again, certain facts are understood, that
if this happens that would happen, I think it is a natural thing to do.
Maybe those who may be too concerned have not looked at what other
eminent Nigerians have been talking about.
“I saw one that said Nigeria is going to be Somalianised. I saw another one who has been talking like there would be war tomorrow. That statement should be taken on its own value.
Bishop calls for Buhari’s arrest over 2015 comment
The
Catholic Bishop of Ekiti Diocese, Most. Rev. Felix Ajakaye, has urged
President Goodluck Jonathan to ensure the arrest and prosecution of
former Head of State, Maj-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), for making
unguarded statements.
The bishop said this in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday in an interview with journalists.
He said the security agents ought to have
arrested Buhari for threatening that there would be bloodshed in the
country if the 2015 was rigged.
According to him, rather than trading words
with the retired general, the Presient ought to have asked law
enforcement agencies to prosecute him for threatening the peace of the
nation.
The cleric said Buhari, the presidential
candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change in the 2011 elections,
should not be allowed to destabilise the country because he wants to
rule at all costs.
He stated that the likes of Buhari had
loyalists who could translate such comments into actions, saying they
should not be allowed to turn the country to a theatre of war.
Ajakaye said the nation was going through a
trying time, adding that such inflammatory comment could worsen the
already bad security situation in the country.
He said, “Nigeria belongs to all of us and
we have no other place to go and we should watch our utterances, no
matter our status. We are in a very trying time and we need to be
prayerful and work.
Nigeria gets 95,000 slots for 2012 Hajj
A total of 95,000 Muslim pilgrims from Nigeria are to perform the 2012 Hajj.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria, Alhaji Muhammad Bello, Chairman, National Hajj Commission, said this on Thursday at a meeting with the Nnenna Elendu-Ukeje-led House Committee on Foreign Affairs in Abuja.
Bello, who briefed the committee on the 2011 Hajj, said the update on arrangements was necessary so as to have a hitch free exercise.
He said the number was
4,000 lower than the allocation Nigeria got in 2011, adding that 10,000
of the figure were allotted to private Hajj operators in the country while the commission and the state pilgrim boards would share the remaining 85,000 slots.
The NAHCON boss, who
attributed the shortfall to lack of space and facilities in the Holy
land, said the commission was still in talks with the Saudi authorities
on the possibility of getting more slots to cater for the huge requests
for Hajj seats in the country.
In the allocation for the 2012 Hajj, Bello said the least number of 80 slots went to Abia, while Kaduna State had the highest of 7,560 and Kano State, 6,778.

Lover kills pastor for objecting to affair with daughter
Many
residents could not hold back tears in Lagos, as a pastor was killed
by his daughter’s lover over amorous relationship. Pastor Ahamefula was
said to have warned his daughter’s lover, Okechukwu to stop dating her
(name withheld). Okechukwu allegedly killed the man of God by pulling
his manhood.
A police source at Itire Police Station disclosed that Ahamefula had earlier condemned Okechukwu’s relationship with his daughater ungodly. A man who identified himself simply as Adekunle alleged that all appeals made by Ahamefula to Okechukwu to allow peace to reign proved abortive as the man continued the affair with the girl.
Adekunle alleged that the pastor also offered an alternative which included that the heartthrob should relocate from his present residence at Karounwi Street, Itire, to elsewhere. He also wanted the man to marry his daughter officially instead of committing fornication with her.
The man of God allegedly saw the lovebirds together and went to meet the man. A quarrel which degenerated into physical combat ensued. The girl’s lover was alleged to have grabbed the manhood of the man of God and pulled it. A witness, simply identified as Kennedy alleged that the pastor screamed and shouted Jesus several times before he collapsed and died.
The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead. Immediately the lover man heard that the pastor has died, he took to his heels and went into hiding. As at the time of filing this report, the policemen attached to Itire Division were still searching for him.
Residents at Karounwi Street, wept as the man of God described as very nice and peaceful gave up the ghost. One of the residents, Chukwuma told Daily Sun that the pastor was not actually against the man marrying his daughter. He said the pastor wanted it done in a godly manner, because he was not comfortable with the idea of sex before marriage which young men and women indulge in.

Jonathan’s govt, most corrupt ever –Buhari’s party
VITUPERATION between the
President Goodluck Jonathan administration and presidential candidate of
the Congress for Progressive Change, Major-General Muhammadu Buhari,
continued on Wednesday with Buhari’s party describing Jonathan’s
government as topping the sleaze chart.
“On corruption and sleazy tendency, the
Jonathan administration transcends all others before it,” the CPC said
in a statement in reaction to the Presidency’s attack on the former head
of state on Tuesday.
The CPC pointed to the mind-boggling
revelations of corruption being unearthed by the probe of the oil sector
by the National Assembly as evidence of corruption in the government.
Buhari also on Wednesday raised the alarm that the Jonathan administration was plotting to arrest him.
In a swift reaction, however, the ruling People’s Democratic Party defended the administration as not being corrupt.
The Presidency, in a statement by
Jonathan’s spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati, had lampooned Buhari over a
comment the latter made to his party members in Kaduna on Monday. Abati
said Buhari was haunted by his electoral defeats.
The CPC candidate reportedly threatened
that that there would be bloodshed if the 2015 elections were not
transparent. He was also said to have described the Jonathan government
as Boko Haram.
The PDP also said Buhari was bloodthirsty and that he was suffering from “combat withdrawal syndrome.”
Corruption, arbitrariness
But the CPC statement accused Jonathan of nepotism and arbitrariness.
The statement signed by the National
Publicity Secretary of the CPC, Mr. Rotimi Fashakin, reads, “Nigerians
are still befuddled by the impeachable show of arbitrariness by the
regime in expending N2.67trn on fuel subsidy instead of the appropriated
N240b in the 2011 appropriation act.
“As expected, the regime has attempted
all manner of subterfuge to give executive cover for the indicted people
in the scam, who were the bank-rollers of the President’s
electioneering.
“Could it be that the missing money was
funnelled deliberately to the Jonathan Presidential Campaigns, with the
acquiescence of the President?”
The CPC also defended Buhari’s charge that the Federal Government was the greatest Boko Haram confronting the country.
FG to pay NYSC members delayed allowance on Friday
Minister of Youth
Development, Mr. Bolaji Abdullahi, on Wednesday assured corps members
across the country that their delayed allowances would be paid latest on
Friday.
Abdullahi gave the assurance after an outcry by corps members over the delay in the payment of their allowances.
He told State House correspondents that
he had extracted a commitment from the Director-General of the National
Youth Service Corps, Brigadier-General Nnamdi Okore-Afia, that the
delayed allowances would be paid by Friday.
The minister blamed the NYSC authorities for failing to explain the cause of the delay to the corps members.
He said, “The problem is that at the
point that the allowances are being delayed, the NYSC ought to have come
out to explain to the corps members why the allowances will be
delayed.”
He explained that the delay in payments of allowances to corps members was due to the transition to a new accounting system.
In a statement by his Special Asistant
on Media, Mr. Julius Ogunro, on Tuesday, Abdullahi said the delay was
not unique to corps members alone adding that some civil servants in the
employ of the Federal Government were also affected by the development.
Abdullahi said, “The delay in the
payment of corps members allownace for the month of April is not
deliberate. It is as a result of the transition to the new and better
secured integrated payroll payment system, as part of government’s
commitment to transparency and accountability.
AGF denies knowledge of Salami’s reinstatement
Attorney-General of the
Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Mohammed Adoke, on Wednesday
said he had not been officially briefed on the purported reinstatement
of the suspended President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami,
by the National Judicial Council.
The NJC, had on Thursday recommended the
reinstatement of Salami who was suspended on the heels of a
disagreement he had with the then Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice
Aloysius Katsina-Alu.
A week after the decision of the NJC
however, President Goodluck Jonathan has yet to reinstate the embattled
judge fuelling speculation that the President is under pressure
especially from the ruling Peoples Democratic Party to ensure that
Salami is not reinstated.
Adoke, while speaking with State House
correspondents in Abuja said he returned to the country from Addis
Ababa, Ethiopia on Tuesday and he had yet to be officially briefed on
the development that occurred while he was away.
The minister said doing so would result to reacting to “mob action.”
He said, “Until when I am briefed and I see the letter, I can’t be reacting to mob action.
“I think Reuben Abati (presidential
spokesman) has told you that the President has not received the letter. I
am waiting to be briefed.”
Why policemen are immoral, corrupt –IG
Acting Inspector General
of Police, Mohammed Abubakar on Wednesday attributed immorality and
corruption in the Force to lack of welfare for the personnel by the
government.
Speaking during the inauguration of the
Board of Directors of Police Savings and Loans Limited (mortgage
bankers) at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, Abubakar observed that the
fear of becoming homeless in retirement drive many police personnel to
engage in corrupt activities.
He said many officers were distressed by
the thought of retirement because they did not leave permanent
residences or homes of their own. He added that the families of those
who died in active service were usually ejected from their official
quarters.
Abubakar said, “Many officers are
distressed by the thought of retirement and even transfer for the fear
of not having a permanent place of residence for themselves and their
families.
“The worst are those who died in active
service as their families are generally ejected from either rented or
official abodes before the end of their mourning period.”
The effect of this has encouraged
corruption, immorality among officers and men of the force and has even
accelerated the death rate of retired personnel.”
Bello Garuba, 21-Year-Old Kano State University Student, To Die By Hanging For Killing Dad, Mom, 3 Siblings (DETAILS).
A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to death by hanging for killing his father, mother and three siblings in Kano nearly two years ago.
Bello Garuba was found guilty by the Kano State High Court yesterday for stabbing to death his ill father Garba, then an assistant director of the State Security Service, as well as his mother Habiba and siblings Hafsat, Khalifa and Murjanatu.
The convict, also known as Baba, was charged in November 2010 with five counts of culpable homicide at the family home along Zoo Road in Kano.Delivering the judgement, Justice Halliru Abdullahi yesterday said he found Baba guilty based on the "uncontroverted" testimonies of seven prosecution witnesses.
He said the evidence given by the convict's brother Faruk convinced the court that he committed the murders, and rejected argument by the defence counsel that some of the testimonies were contradictory.
Faruk, who was 10 years old at the time of the incident, told the court at the commencement of trial last year that Baba used a knife to stab the five to death. He said he escaped the attack after taking refuge in a toilet.
Baba, who was a student of the Kano State University of Technology at the time, made a confessional statement to the police admitting the murders but later denied it, saying he made the statement following a death threat by the SSS.
He said he was woken up by screams on the night his family members were killed and blamed the attack on some men wearing masks.
Baba's legal team, led by Ahmed Raji, argued in a brief to the court that the evidence of Faruk should be discountenanced, saying it was wrong by virtue of Section 209 of the Evidence Act for a child to be summoned to give evidence.
Stephanie Okereke’s Ex-Hubby Speaks - "She’s not on my level"
Former Super Eagles player and actress Stephanie Okereke‘s ex, Chikelue Iloanusi has spoken out about his relationship with the newly married star.
In an interview with entertainment reporter, Nonye Ben Nwankwo, Iloanusi disclosed the events that led to their break-up.
According to him, Stephanie sued him for N100m on the grounds that he was married to another woman in America, to which he replied, ‘If I had been married to another woman and she had the documents to prove it, nobody would talk about the court striking the case out. What she should be suing me for would have been bigamy. Nobody has charged me for bigamy. If I was charged with that, I would have defended myself and provided every document to show the real state of things. Everybody in Nigeria knows that when you have two marriages, you will be charged with bigamy.‘
He also denied that she was the main breadwinner during their marriage.
Iloanusi wished her the best in her new marriage, but criticized the public nature of her wedding, saying ‘Even if she wants to remarry, does she have to tell the general public about it? Nobody is stopping her. Everything about life is about upbringing and orientation, but I wish her the best of luck. I’m not competing with her. She no longer exists in my life. I hope she doesn’t come out of this marriage again and start going to newspapers saying the man did this or that to her. I don’t want anybody to break her heart‘.
As regards why he has been silent on the matter for so long, he said he didn’t want to discuss his life on the pages of newspapers, adding that ‘I’ve moved on very well and very fast. I have parted ways with her. I don’t have anything to do with her and I’ll never have anything to do with her. I’ll not wish her bad luck. She is not news to me…My fans should ignore her and whatever she says about me. It is not as if I cannot respond to everything she has been saying about me in the newspapers, it is just that she is not in my class‘.
The player denied reports he was jealous of his former wife, saying;
‘Why should I be jealous of her? She is in the past. I’ve moved on with my own life. There is absolutely no reason for me to be jealous…If you ask me, I will tell you she doesn’t exist in my life. We’re not on the same level… Some people phoned me to say she would wed in Paris, but I don’t care. She can go and marry in heaven‘.
Iloanusi, who says his career is ‘fantastic’, is currently the national vice-president of the National Association of Nigerian Footballers. Of this he says ‘our football is having problems, but it is all good‘.
The duo’s marriage was annulled earlier in the year, after over five years in court. A few months later, on Saturday, April 21, 2012, Okereke married her friend and business partner, Linus Idahosa, in Paris, in a star studded, multi-million naira wedding.

Personal HIV test kits to be sold over-the-counter
Over-the-counter HIV tests that would allow people to check in the privacy of their homes if they have the virus have moved a step closer in the US as a panel of experts said it was safe.
A panel of experts at the Blood Products Advisory Committee said the OraQuick In-Home HIV Test was safe and effective and its potential to prevent infections outweighed the risk of false results.
The Food and Drug Administration will decide this year whether to approve it.
The 20-minute test is 93% accurate for positive results and 99.8% for negative, the manufacturer said.
HIV affects nearly 1.2m people in the US, with 50,000 new cases each year.
Experts on the Blood Products Advisory Committee voted 17-0 to back the test, saying it would help people who are HIV-positive get access to healthcare and social services.
They urged Pennsylvania-based OraSure, the company that manufactures the product, to include highly visible warnings about false negative results.
The panel also advised that the packaging should carry a toll-free phone number offering counselling to those testing positive.
Carl Schmid, deputy director of the AIDS Institute, welcomed the panel’s approval on Tuesday of the home test.
“We are always looking for game changers, and we believe this is one of them,” he told the Associated Press.” “Not only will it help reduce the number of infections but it will bring more people into care and treatment.”
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not have to follow the recommendations of the advisory panel, though it usually does.
In 2004, the FDA approved a 99%-effective version of the test for use by healthcare professionals.
OraSure said the home test could retail for less than $60 if approved.
To take the test, the user swabs the outer gum area so the oral fluid, which is not the same as saliva, can be checked for the HIV virus.
The test provides results within about 20 minutes, but experts say the results should be confirmed with a blood test, which is more accurate.
Last week, a separate FDA panel approved a drug called Truvada, which could become the first drug in tablet form to protect healthy people from the HIV virus.

Ajimobi adopts twins from a mentally ill woman
The mother of the twins, Miss Taiwo Monsurat Ariyo who is an orphan has being mentally unstable since the age of 10.
Wife of the Oyo state governor, Mrs. Flourence Ajimobi who organised the naming ceremony for the twins promised to adopt the two boys and that their mother will also be stabilised and properly rehabilitated.
The two boys were immediately given the surname of the governor as they were named, Abdulbasit Oluwaseyifunmi and Abdulwariz Oluwaseunfunmi Ajimobi at a naming ceremony attended by government functionaries.
According to the doctor in charge of the case, Dr. Jonathan Osamoh, the Hausa Community in Sabo brought Taiwo and her twins to the Adeoyo Maternity hospital after she had an unhygienic delivery within the Sabo community.
Dr. Osamoh disclosed that Taiwo’s condition is treatable and can be stabilised with time.
Mrs. Ajimobi promised that her family will bear all the responsibility of raising the twins.
Sitting beside the first lady was the mother of the twins in white lace, as her children were being named. She remained mute and her facial expression revealed neither joy nor sorrow.
Mrs. Florence Ajimobi who had earlier visited the young mother and her kids after delivery promised to take absolute responsibility of the kids, starting with the naming ceremony.
Unknown father
Taiwo and her brother, Idowu-the only relative she has-is the only survivor from the first set of triplets from their parents while Taiwo is the only survivor from the second set of triplets by their mother who died while they were much younger.
Idowu disclosed that Taiwo has been mentally ill since her 10th birthday and that she goes out and comes at will, only for her to return with the pregnancy one day without any lead to who the father was.
He expressed his gratitude to Mrs. Ajimobi for giving his sister a new lease of life.
Dr. Jonathan Osamoh was optimistic of Taiwo’s recovery and rehabilitation as Mrs. Ajimobi gave assurance that all bills would be taken care of as Taiwo embarks on the journey to recovery.

Pastor Adeboye, 70,Shuns Calls To Quit As GO
Pastor Enoch Adejare Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God who turned 70 this year, has shunned the call from the Europe-based pastors of the church to relinquish the post of the General Overseer.
It was alleged that about 20 pastors from the branches of the Church in Europe met with the revered man of God in his International office at Redemption Camp, KM 46, Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, Mowe, Ogun State, to advise him to resign so that a younger pastor could be appointed to head the church.
The reason given by these ambitious men of God was that since Pastor Adeboye has clocked 70 years, it is normal for him, according to what obtains in the church, to retire.
The pastors cited the case of the four Assistant General Overseers of the church, Pastors M.O. Ojo, Ilori, Aderibigbe and D. Ojo, whose retirements were announced at the conclusion of Minister Conference on Sunday, August 8, 2010.
Investigation by P.M.NEWS, however, revealed that Pastor Adeboye could not retire from the position of the General Overseer of the church yet, as the position is not political.
A leading member of the church who spoke with P.M.NEWS this morning said it is God who will nominate the successor to the office when the time comes.
Our source, who did not want his name mentioned, said further, “the founder of the church, Pa Josiah Oluwafemi Akindayomi, did not appoint a successor because he was 70, rather, the successor, Pastor Adejare Adeboye was appointed when the time came for him, the founder, to go and meet with the Lord.’
A pastor of the church (name withheld) wondered how some people could be thinking that way, “when all of us are seriously praying to God to grant our father (Pastor Adeboye) long life, good health and strength to continue the good work he’s doing for the Lord.”
He further said the position of the General Overseer of the Church is not for the highest bidder or the most erudite pastor; rather, it is God who will appoint the most qualified pastor when it is time.
Pastor Adeboye had told his faithful in one of the services not too long ago that his successor is still in drinking joint, that is, the fellow is yet to give his life to Christ or he is still a baby Christian.
PMNEWS
Honestly to me, I don't think the issue of 'transfer of leadership' should be on the 'front burner' for now, the man of God apparently knows when he will no longer be able to carry on (appropriate time for retirement) and is vested with the sole responsibility of making that decision, not some 'imported or local' pastors, so issues such as this should not even arise at all. Looks like a 'proposed conspiracy' from some 'self-centered' individuals...that is if the story is true anyway.

Fashola rejected our plea to recall sacked doctors – NMA
The
President of the Nigerian Medical Association, Dr. Osahon Enabulele,
has said the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, rejected the
plea by the association that the 788 doctors that were sacked last week
Monday be recalled.
Osahon spoke with our correspondent on
Tuesday after a three-hour meeting with the governor, Commissioner for
Health and the Head of Service.
He said Fashola, who left the meeting
midway for another meeting, explained that the reversal of the sacking
was beyond his powers.
He said, “Governor Fashola rejected our
moves to reverse the sacking of the doctors. Efforts by NMA to make both
parties shift grounds were rejected.
“He said the matter was beyond him. He
left midway, saying he had made the state government’s position known to
the doctors. The NMA is going to constitute a meeting to explore other
options available to us.”
The Chairman of the Medical Guild, Dr.
Olumuyiwa Odusote, said the guild had filed a suit against the state
government over the dismissal at the Industrial Court, adding that the
case would be coming up on Wednesday (today).
He said instead of negotiating with the
leadership of the NMA, Fashola referred the sacked doctors to the
Health Service Commission.
Odusote said, “The governor said he was
not the person that sacked us. He said we should go and meet our
employers, the Health Service Commission.
“The case is in court already and our hearing comes up tomorrow (Wednesday). Let the law adjudge who is wrong or right.”
He said Fashola, however, agreed to reverse the eviction order given to sacked doctors to vacate their official quarters.
Odusote said, “He said the reversal of
the eviction order was within his powers and he would look into it but
action stays on the sacking.”
Buhari under fire over threat of bloodshed
The
Presidency and the Peoples Democratic Party on Tuesday responded hotly
to the threat by a former military dicator, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, that
there would be bloodbath in 2015 if the general elections of that year
were not transparent.
While the Presidency said the statement
by Buhari was ‘saddening’, the PDP said it portrayed the ex-Head of
State as a blood-thirsty person who lacked democratic credentials.
Buhari on Tuesday however insisted that
what he said was not different from what other had said and that the PDP
was talking balderdash.
The ex-Head of State who was the
Presidential candidate of the Congress for Progressive Change in the
2011 poll, while addressing members of the party from Niger State, had
warned that the 2015 general elections would be bloody if the polls were
not transparent.
“God willing, by 2015, something will
happen. They either conduct a free and fair election or they go a very
disgraceful way. If what happened in 2011 (alleged rigging) should again
happen in 2015, by the grace of God, the dog and the baboon would all
be soaked in blood,’’ Buhari reportedly told the party members who paid
him a courtesy visit in Kaduna on Monday.
Statement not befitting a statesman
The Presidency, in a statement by
presidential spokesman, Dr. Reuben Abati, said it found it very sad that
an elder statesman who once presided over the whole of Nigeria could
reduce himself to a regional leader who spoke for only a part of the
country.
Abati said with Buhari’s utterances,
Jonathan now understood what his protégé and former Minister of the
Federal Capital Territory, Mallam Nasir el’Rufai, meant when he wrote in
a public letter in October 2010, telling Nigerians that Buhari remained
“perpetually unelectable” and that Buhari’s “insensitivity to
Nigeria’s diversity and his parochial focus are already well-known.”
He said nobody could know the former head of state better than his own political associate.
He alleged that ahead of the 2011
elections, Buhari never bothered to campaign in the southern part of the
country and consistently played up the North-South divide to the
chagrin of patriotic and well-meaning Nigerians.

Kano sponsors 100 spouses in mass wedding
It
was a day of joy in Kano on Tuesday when the Kano State Government
sponsored the marriages of 100 spouses in a joint wedding facilitated by
the state Hisbah Board.
The wedding which held at the Kano
Central Mosque was supervised by the Emir, Alhaji Ado Bayero, and
Secretary to State Government, Dr. Rabiu Suleiman, who stood in for
Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso.
The colourful ceremony had most of the brides and grooms in white attire.
Two visually-impaired persons – Malam
Adamu Mai Pada and Malama Batula Umaru – married each other at the
occasion. They are both from Garko Local Government Area of the state.
The Director-General of the board, Alhaji Abba Sufi, said it was the happiest day of his life.
He said it was the desire of the current administration to see eligible spouses get married and live a happy life.
Sufi said there were no political
considerations in picking the beneficiaries, explaining that 1,800 forms
were distributed from which the 100 beneficiaries were selected.
He said very soon, another set of 100
spouses would be joined in holy wedlock in an elaborate ceremony to be
bankrolled by the government.
The director-general also said marriage
certificates were issued to the couples and that when the need arose for
divorce, the board must be notified.
The beneficiaries also included two
Christians, who are now Muslims. One of them, Isah Brakar, is from
Langtang in Plateau state.
Most of the beneficiaries are those who could not finance their wedding.

The Story Of A 26-year Old Girl Who Had 26 Abortion (A Must Read).
I am 26 years old. I simply got into sex out of ignorance like millions
of young people today. My addiction placed me as the highest abortionist
in the world at age of 26 and now, I have a sad story to tell.
Until I found myself in a total mess, I never really had any Idea what premarital sex was all about. I never knew it was so useless and killing. Before I got into it, I use to think it was some fun and I dreamt of it more often than not. I wished with all my heart to have a boyfriend whom we would explore it together, little did I know that I was being nasty to myself.
Because of things I see on TV and magazine, I thought having sex was so much fun, I fantasized about it each time I felt lonely. I was just a little girl but I had big wishes and huge fantasies. Only if I had known that everything I see in movies and soap operas were just acting and make belief; only if I had known that there is nothing in sex after all, the only thing in it is self destruction; I think my life wouldn’t be this miserable.
It’s a pity i really had to learn the hard way and I really wish I had never been born, I wish I had not come out into this deceitful world where nobody cares about young people, all the so called adults do is how they would play on the intelligence of young people in a bid to exploit and use them to satisfy their insatiable sexual passion. I really feel bad about this wicked world.

Truvada, HIV Prevention Drug, Receives US Backing!
A US Food and Drug Adminsitration (FDA) advisory committee has recommended Gilead Sciences’ Truvada for approval in the US in the prevention of HIV as well as in combination with three other therapies as Quad for the treatment of the virus.
The panel voted in favour of approving Truvada (emtricitabine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate) to reduce the risk of HIV-1 infection among uninfected adults, an HIV prevention strategy called pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP).
This indication was divided into three different sub-groups: men who have sex with men, non-infected partners of people with HIV, and other individuals at risk for acquiring HIV through sexual activity. Voting results were 19 to 3, 19 to 2 (with one abstaining) and 12 to 8 (with two abstaining) respectively.
If it does gain final approval, Truvada would be the first drug to gain such an indication in the US, although its use in preventing the virus has drawn concerns from some quarters.
The HIV charity, Avert, said that some healthcare professionals “believe that use of PrEP in this way may give rise to complacency, an increase in risky sexual behaviour and a false perception about an AIDS cure”.
Reuters also reported quoted Dr Lauren Wood of the US National Cancer Institute, who voted against all preventive applications as she thought that the clinical studies had not measured the potential for increased risk of renal problems among the black population, who are more susceptible to kidney problems as a side effect of drugs.
According to Gilead, two large placebo-controlled phase II trials sponsored by the US National Institutes of Health and the University of Washington, supported the use of Truvada for a reduction in the risk of HIV infection if taken as prescribed.
