Berlin-based Werkstatt Deutschland on Saturday reversed its decision to award Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin the prestigious Quadriga prize due to massive criticism.
The organization said its plans to give Putin the Quadriga Award as a "role model for enlightenment, dedication and the public good" had come under massive attack in the media and the political community.
Putin was to be honored for his contribution to Russia's"stability through the interaction between prosperity, economics and identity," as well asto the reliability of German-Russian ties.
But many German publicfigures have protested the plan, saying his human rights record made him an unacceptable candidate.
The prize, a small statue of the quadriga - a chariot pulled by four horses - on top of the Brandenburg Gate inBerlin, was to have been bestowed upon the Russian prime minister October 3, the Day of German Unity.
Putin served with the KGB in East Germany forfive years until German reunification in 1990.
Several Quadriga board members, including Cem Ozdemir, a co-chairof the German opposition Green party, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales and history professor EdgarWolfrum, withdrew from the board in protest against the decision.
Ozdemir said there were "differences" between him and otherboard members in the evaluation of Putin's contribution to"democracy" and the rule of law, while Wolfrum described the decision as"scandalous."

Iran lawmakers reject Russia's nuclear proposals
Iranian lawmakers on Saturday dismissed Russia's "step-by-step"approach on Iran's nuclear program as a bid to revive Moscow's own political influence inthe region, Press TV reported.
The approach, laid out by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Wednesday, would enable Iran to address questions from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) over its nuclear program.
MP Mohammad Karami-Rad said Iran has already responded to questions and ambiguities regarding its nuclear program, adding that "new conditions for resumingnegotiations are not acceptable."
Lavrov suggested Iran could revive negotiations to alleviate IAEA concerns about its nuclear activities and be rewarded by partial removal of sanctions.
Iran insists that as an IAEA member and a signatory to Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), it has the right to the peaceful applications ofnuclear energy for electricity generation and medical research.
Karami-Rad's remarks echo comments by Alaeddin Boroujerdi, head of Iran's Majlis (parliament) Committee on National Security and Foreign Policy, who also dismissed the Russian proposal as"repetitious."
Tehran says it has been fully cooperative with the Agency over its nuclear program, urging the body not to be swayed by certain Western countries.

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez plans to fly to Havana on Saturday to begin a new phase of cancer treatment, including chemotherapy sessions.
"I need to continue completing the strict plan designed by the medical team that is accompanying me on this ascent of the mountain," Chavez said on Friday in comments carried on state television.
The 56-year-old left-wing populist had surgery in Cuba last month to remove a cancerous tumor from his pelvic region.
'I'm going to begin the second stage of this slow, complex process of recuperation,' he saidon state television. "It will start with chemotherapy."
"I'm asking for legislative authority to absent myself from the country from Saturday, July 16, in order to continue the treatment plan in Havana needed for me to recover my full health," Chavez said.
Brazil's official news agency earlier reported that Chavez had accepted to be treated at the same Sao Paulo hospital that treats Paraguayan President Fernando Lugo, who is also suffering from cancer.
"I have faith in God, medical science and our Cuban and Venezuelan doctors and finally in my own will to live - to live for my people, for my daughters and grandchildren and myself - that we will continue along the pathto recovery," Chavez added

Boko Haram: Anger trails FG’s trial of 7 police officers
There is anger in the land, especially as it concerns security agencies, including the Nigeria Police and the Armed Forces, following the decision of the federal government to go ahead with the trial of seven police officers accused of killing Boko Haram leader, Mohammed Yusuf in 2009.
Secondly, the military establishment, especially members of the junior officers’ corps and Non Commissioned officers, are seething with rage over calls during the week by some so-called elders from Boko Haram States on President Goodluck Jonathan to order the withdrawal of troops deployed there to checkmate the increasing wave ofbombings and killings of innocent Nigerians.
Investigations by Saturday Vanguard showed that police officers, and the rank and file are devastatedto note that the same Boko Haram leader who led his group of blood thirsty murderers to attack the police barracks in Maiduguri in 2009, slaughtering 23 police officers and killing another 37 family members of the police officers, including women and children in cold blood, before he was apprehended and killed, is the same person being treated like a hero while seven police officers are being treated as villains by taking them for trial for murder.

Mike Adenuga Might Be Africa’s Richest Man - Forbes
In March this year, Forbes published its annual rankings of the world's richest people. Mike Adenuga, who debuted on the list, was ranked as the second richest Nigerian, with a net worth of $2 billion, while Nigerian Aliko Dangote was valued at$13.8 billion.
But shortly after the list was published, controversy erupted in Nigerian media circles. Several Nigerian analysts and Adenuga’s staff refuted our valuation. Iwas bombarded with emails and messages requesting to know the criteria we used in valuing individuals’ wealth, and our rationale for valuing Adenuga so low. CONTROVERSY TRAILS MOST BEAUTIFUL GIRL IN NIGERIA 2011
There have been very serious allegations, hanging over the recently concluded MostBeautiful Girl in Nigeria.
These reactions became so prominent after Anambra state born Sylvia Nduka who represented Taraba state emerged the winner.
It was discovered by those who were observant at the live show that almost all the girls who were shortlisted for this year’s competition scored lower than 50 percent in spoken English.
In fact, one of the hottest stories in town right now is that all the 34 girls knew how to doone thing and that was ‘murdering of the English Language.
Eventually Miss Taraba, Sylvia Nduka, an accounting student of University of Lagos waschosen.
When Guy Murray-Bruce asked her how she feels winning the MBGN,She answered thus;” I feel exciting and happiness.”
The organizers have since dismissed the mistake as normal saying that the new queen was caught by the excitement.
According to them, Sylvia deserved her crown as judgement begins the moment the girls entered the camp. Character in the camp, personality and ability to adapt to grooming they told us, accounted for 70 percent of the score while the judges at the venue only had 30 percent of the mark to dispense.
According to them, it was not possible for the judges to evaluate the 34 girls by merely looking at them from seats in under 2 hours. Again they insisted “thejudges were also takinginto consideration the emotions of a hired crowd which was not the best criterion to arrive at the choice of a real queen”.

Mimiko urges Ondo workers to return to work
THE Ondo State governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, on Thursday, urged the striking workers to go back to their duty posts.
This is just as he called on well meaning people of the state to prevail on the workers to reciprocate his government’s commitment to their welfare, by calling off the strike.
He assured the workersthat he was irrevocably committed to ensuring that their welfare took the focal point of his progra-mmes, saying that what his government had done, with the vexed minimum wage law, was unprecedented in the nation, as neither the Federal Governmentnor any state government had matched what it was willing to pay workers inthe state.
Governor Mimiko, however, wondered why, in spite this, the workers’ union leaders still called workers out for strike for the second time in one month, a situation he described as baffling and unethical, in view ofthe government/workers friendly posture, being aLabour Party (LP) government.
Mimiko, who made this appeal when he led top members of his government to the state specialist hospital, in Akure, however, commended health workers in the state for passionately discharging their duties and for their dedication to work.
He said their refusal to abandon their patients at this critical time was highly commendable and worthy of emulation by other workers in the state.(NIGERIAN TRIBUNE)

Major powers gather for Libya talks
US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton insisted onthe eve of the talks that Gadhafi's days were numbered, with the colonel hanging on inTripoli despite four months of NATO-led bombings backing up rebels battling his four-decade regime.
Foreign ministers from several other major powers will also attend the gathering in Istanbul.
The so-called International Contact Group on Libya will ponder the chances of negotiating a political settlement to the conflict with representatives of the regime -- excluding Gadhafi and his inner circle -- and the rebels, officials said.
The UN envoy for Libya, Abdul Ilah al-Khatib, will brief participants on his recent talks with both Tripoli and the rebels at their stronghold of Benghazi, a Turkish diplomat said.
"Ideas are maturing on how to launch a political track through the mediating role of the United Nations," Italy's foreign ministry spokesman Maurizio Massari said.
"The fundamental point is that Gadhafi is not part of this political process. A dialogue with members of the regime who are not Kadhafi's family or officials on thesanctions list could be the basis for this process," he said.

It's becoming an "unbecoming"...the government have to do something urgently to address it before it gets 'out of hand', prominent among possible solutions to curbing robbery in our society is the massive creation of jobs. A lot of youths/graduates out there are unemployed and atimes, its frustration that makes them to start joining bad gangs out of desperation to make money...good evening everyone, hope ur day was good?

Nigerian youth, national asset, says minister
THE newly appointed Minister of Youth Development, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, has assumed office yesterday promising to reposition the Ministry to make it more effective and efficient. Addressing officials of the ministry, the minister noted that the ministry is actually in a vantage position to turnthe enormous population of Nigerian youth into an asset.
According to him, “with about 70 million Nigerian youths, the Ministry of Youth Development is one of the most important ministries, and we can make serious positive impact by taking advantage of our large youthful population.”
He urged the management and staff of the ministry to join him in this quest to ensure a turn around in the fortunes of the ministry and make impact in the lives of every Nigerian youth.

Northern group blames former Borno governor for Boko Haram
The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has blamed a former governor of Borno State, Ali Modu Sherrif, for the rise of the violent Boko Haram group. Chairman of the Forum, Jeremiah Useni told journalists at the State House Abuja, after a meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan and Vice President Namadi Sambo on ways to addressing the upsurge in violence, that Mr Sherrif’s maladministration and policy of using and dumping youths in the state was the cause of the anger directed against government by members of the group.
Mr Useni, who condemned the use of violence as a means of settling grievances, blamed Mr Sherrif for neglecting the youth in the state after using them to achieve his political aims. “I remember when I was the deputy national chairman of the ANPP, I went to Borno State to commission some projects and when we were driving along one of the major streets, I saw young boys selling petrol in jerry cans and I asked the governor why he allowed them to be selling on a major road like that, and he said, ‘no, no, leave them; they are very useful during general elections. We can use them to turn everywhere.’
“So, it means they were used during the elections. So, that was how it all started. And if you remember, we had the same problem in Rivers State where one of the former governors used thugs and at the end of it, they became militants. So, there is always reason for something. No matter how good a government at the top is, some politicians at the state and local government will renege on their duties and divert public funds meant for infrastructure development to fund their political ambition.” Speaking on the way forward, Mr Useni said the Forum is organising a conference and putting together a team that will work with the government to resolve the issue.
“So, there are lot of things responsible for all these and the best way is for us to sit down and tell ourselves the truth. That is why we are organising Arewa Peace Conference come December this year. All the governors will come so that we will sit and talk and we will follow up with a monitoring group to follow up. As an organisation, that is all we can do since we have no legislative powers. But for now, we are going to start something before the conference.”(Source: 234next.com)

Senate rejects Ando, Taraba ministerial nominee•Confirms Ama Pepple, Ochekpe, 3 others•Ando not Taraba people’s choice –H/Assembly
THE Senate, on Tuesday, rejected the nomination of Dr Obadiah Ando, a ministerial nominee from Taraba State, as it confirmed five more ministerial nominees.
Those confirmed were Edem Duke (Cross River); Sarah Ochekpe (Plateau), Nyesom Wike, Ama Pepple (Rivers) and Hadiza Ibra-him Mailafia (Kaduna).
However, screening and possible confirmation of Dr Nurudeen Mohammed (Jigawa); Mrs Omobola Johnson Olubusola (Ondo) and Dr Mohammed Pate (Bauchi) were adjourned till today.
Dr Ando, who was the immediate past Minister of Water Resources, appeared for screening and reeled out his achievements, but his rejection was announced by an overwhelming ‘nay’ voice vote from almost all senators, including opposition senators.
Ando, whose rejection was the first since the screening and confirmation of ministerial nominees started on June 29, had a problem with the people of Taraba State.
Last week, senators from Taraba State rejected his nomination, based on his alleged non-performance and inaccessibility to the people when he was minister.

Withdrawal limit: CBN challenges court’s jurisdiction to hear suit
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), on Tuesday, challenged the jurisdiction of a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja to hear the suit filed against it by 11 communities in Delta State over the apex bank’s cash withdrawal limit.
The trial judge,Justice Adamu Bello, subsequently fixed October 11 to hear the preliminary objection of the bank.
The court also fixed that date to entertain the application for the enforcement of the fundamental human rights of the riverine communities.
The communities, led by a human rights activist in the Niger Delta, Mr Eyiri Emami, had dragged the CBN Governor, Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi to court , over the directive of the apex bank which pegged the daily withdrawal limit by individuals and corporate organisations at N150,000 and N1million respectively.
But counsel for the CBN and Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federation who was also joined in the suit, Mr Damian Dodo (SAN), in his notice of preliminary objection, asked the court to dismiss the suit for failing to disclose any reasonable cause of action.

Epidemic outbreak looms in Lagos •As rain wreaks more havoc, more dead bodies found •NEMA confirms 9 deaths in Katsina
AS the flood from the two-day torrential rain receded in Lagos and other parts of the country on Tuesday, there was an increasing fear of a possible outbreak of epidemic in some worst hit areas.
This is because many residents were still living in unhygienic conditions three days after last Sunday’s downpour.
Nigerian Tribune investigations showed that some wells, especially in Lagos, which had been the source of drinking water, and overhead tanks of many households in the Lagos metropolis were overrun by the flood thereby contaminating the water.
Many residents of Aboru in Alimosho Local Government Area expressed worries over the health hazards posed by the prevalent unhygienic conditions in the area after the flood.
When Nigerian Tribune visited some of the worst hit areas by the flood, such as Alabede, Ikola, Raji Rasaki and Akinola, some inhabitants were seen fetching water from the wells, which had been submerged by the flood and water from the nearby canal.
It was also observed that the water, which was greenish and emitting some unpleasant odour, was still being used by the residents to carry out their domestic chores, in spite of the health implications of their actions.
Besides, some of the victims who had their foodstuffs destroyed by the flood were making frantic efforts to make the foodstuffs edible.
“We never prepared for this disaster. So we have no choice but to make do with what we have. For instance, where we do we go now to fetch water? Besides, it is not possible to throw out all these materials on the excuse that they have been affected by the flood,” Joyce, a housewife and one of the victims in Alabede Street, said.

Boko Haram: Maiduguri residents flee •Another bomb blast in Suleja •Plateau govt evacuates students from UNIMAID •Borno elders accuse JTF of killing innocent civilians •FG to dialogue with Boko Haram
THOUSANDS of people are still fleeing Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, following the rumour doing the rounds that the government is planning to re-peat the Odi massacre in Borno, as a result of the Boko Haram menace in the state.
When Nigerian Tribune visited the Kano motor park on Tuesday afternoon, hundreds of people were seen waiting anxiously for vehicles.
Some groups of Almajiris who were going to ‘Tashan Journey’ on the outskirts of Maiduguri to board trucks going to Kano and other parts of the northern state, told Nigerian Tribune that their Mallams asked them to flee, because the soldiers would come and kill them all.
Also, some students who spoke to the Nigerian Tribune said transport fare had skyrocketed, as buses to Kano from Maiduguri now charged N5,500 as against N2,600
“Even at that, there are no vehicles to take us home and our parents are disturbed,” they added.
Meanwhile, 18 Borno elders, led by Dr Shettima Ali Monguno, on Tuesday, in Maiduguri, accused the Joint Task Force, Operation Restore Order in Borno of killing hundreds of youths in the state for no concrete reasons other than that they were youths.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Committee of Borno Elders and Leaders of Thought, including Shettima Ali Monguno, OFR; Imam Baba Gana Asil, the Imam Idaini of Borno; Alhaji Garba Abba Satomi, OON; Alhaji Bukar Bolori, OON; Alhaji Usman Gaji Galtimari, CON; Alhaji Kyari Sandabe, OFR; Brigadier-General Abba Kyari (retd); Air Vice Marshal Al-amin Daggash, CFR; Alhaji Shettima Ali Kidaji; Ambassador Yusufari, OFR; AIG Zanna Laminu Mamadi, mni (retd); AIG Muktar Alkali, OON, mni (retd); Alhaji Tijjani Bolori, OON; Alhaji Dr Bulama Mali Gubio, mni; Alhaji Umar Abba Shuwa; Alhaji Ibrahim El-Zubairu; Mallam Ibrahim Mustapha and Alhaji Gambo Gubio mni.
According to them, many communities had been sacked and people in their thousands were fleeing Maiduguri, because of the humanitarian crisis the state was in and as such demanded the immediate withdrawal of all soldiers on the streets of Maiduguri.
Meanwhile, another bomb blast hit Madalla, a suburb of Suleja town in Niger State, the second in less than 48 hours, but no casualty was recorded.
The explosive was allegedly planted close to the Evangelical Church of West Africa (ECWA) in Madalla at about 8:30 p.m by yet-to-be identified persons, causing panic in the area after it exploded.
When contacted, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr Richard Oguche, confirmed the story, adding that the bomb was thrown close to ECWA church, but the explosion did not cause any harm.
In another development, the Plateau State government has concluded arrangements to evacuate its students at the University of Miaduguri, following indefinite closure of the institution as a result of the latest clash between the Joint Task Force and the Boko Haram sect in Miaduguri.
Nigerian Tribune learnt that the students of the institution, who are of Plateau origin, made distress calls to the state government in the early hours of Tuesday, following the closure of the university.
A source close to the students told the Nigerian Tribune by phone that some of them, who attempted to travel to Jos on their own, were stranded at the motor parks within the state capital.

Residents flee Maiduguri
Thousands fled Maiduguri and the local university was shut after a week of intensified clashes between an Islamist sect and military forces. The Boko Haram sect, which says it wants a wider application of sharia Islamic law across Africa's most populous nation, has claimed responsibility for the killings of police officers and attacks with homemade explosives on churches and drinking places in recent months.
What I do to sustain my marriage —Omotola Jalade
Rumours have been rife that delectable and beautiful actress Omotola Jalade Ekeinde’s matrimonial home might be experiencing some cracks. But thank God, the mother of four has finally laid the rumour to rest.
GE accosted her sometime ago to know the secret behind her unharmed marriage, and this is what she said:
“Being married to somebody outside showbiz is an advantage for me. So I’m imagining maybe that could help. He is not in my profession, so I don’t see him often, and I’m not in his own profession, so he doesn’t see me often, too. We don’t see each other often. So, I guess that gives us space which is important in marriage. He has space and I have space. Don’t forget that a marriage is a partnership of two individuals.
I had my life before I met him and the same goes for him, so we need to understand and respect each other’s freedom and individuality. I think the reason why a lot of marriages run into trouble is because the couples don’t understand that they are two different people and are into a partnership of and for life.
The purpose of us coming together is to try see how to make each other’s life bearable and not unbearable. I mean, you shouldn’t be in my business all the time and I shouldn’t be in yours. When it is time for us to collaborate and think about how to make our lives more enjoyable and sweeter, we will do that and when it’s time for me to figure out myself I need my partner to get out of my situation; that is totally important. But like I always say, I think the highest part of it is the fear of God.
If you fear God and you know that you do not necessarily have to answer to him or her it makes things easier because you know that you have a higher being to answer to. So even when you make mistakes, you report yourself to God first and foremost, so that he can help you out, and then you can go ahead to sort it out with the human being(s). But the good thing is that you wouldn’t even do all those naughty stuffs that break marriages because you know somebody up there is watching you.”
Hmmm….this is quite sweet to hear; or what do you think? We hope some actresses whose names we wouldn’t want to mention are reading this. Oops!

According to source, the 56 year old actor is reported to be diagnosed with heart, liver and kidney related diseases.
We learnt the actor is currently spending about #34,000 per month on medications to stabilize his conditions.
When asked about his state of health, he replied;
Yes I must confess to you that I just thank God that I am alive. In fact, I had given up all hopes already. I taught the end had come for me. I taught it was fever that’s why I left for the hospital. In fact when I got to the hospital, I lost consciousness. I only discovered when waking up that my manhood was in the hands of two nurses while they guarded it into a receptacle for me to urinate. I got so confused. It was the following day that they tried to conduct series of test on me and they could not really achieve much due to the lack of enough medical facilities at the private hospital. That made the doctor on duty to refer me to Lagos Teaching Hospital (LUTH).”
“But I Thank God that I am feeling ok for now, though, I still feel a little tired when I am walking, ‘And I am heavily on drugs that cost me about N34,000(Thirty Four Thousand Naira)every month,” he said.
We wish him speedy recovery.

How Funke Akindele (Jenifa), Ruined Femi Adebayo’s Marriage
Reports at our disposal revealed that the marriage of top actor, Femi Adebayo and his Kahdijat Bukola has hit the brick wall.
The blissful marriage of the couple began to experience turbulence several months ago. After several reports made the rounds that the actor has been involved in secret affairs with the leading actress who featured prominently in the Yoruba movie Jenifa (a village prostitute who got admission to the University in the City) 1 and 2, Funke Akindele. Femi Adebayo is the son to the ace actor Adebayo Salami (Oga-Bello) who was formerly the Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP) national President.
Before things finally degenerated to this level, there have been several reports making rounds about how Femi sent Khadijat packing with three children after several efforts by and concerned friends and relatives to reconcile the embattled couple failed. Khadijat now presently live with her parents at Ikpe road, GRA Area, Offa, and Kwara State. The University of Ilorin Graduate of Computer Science SE gathered has been abandoned and left to cater for three kids. The embattled woman also has to face the reality of getting a job for the upkeep of the children, unlike when she lived happily with her husband as a full house wife, to take proper care of the kids.
A source further hinted SE that several efforts made by Khadijat to be reconciled with her husband yielded no result. There were situations she sent text messages to Femi about the crises in their marriage and the need to make up as a couple. Such text messages a source informed are forwarded by Femi to the mobile number of his father, Chief Adebayo Salami, which one way or the other always get to other members of the Adebayo’s family, Khadijat’s family, we discovered, has not been happy with Femi’s father and mother the way they have handled the crises between the couple. They believe Oga Bello as an authority in the Nigeria movie industry should have called both his son Femi and Funke to order, rather than watch them, a situation that has adversely affected the marriage which has resulted in constant feature in the media, leading to an eventual crash. This ugly trend has caused more damage than truth. On his part Oga Bello has denied any knowledge of the relationship between his son and Funke. He said he’s not aware that his son, Femi is having an affair with Funke Akindele.
Before this whole issue finally degenerated to its present state, Oga Bello earlier spoke, saying that only Femi and Funke can clear the air on their relationship. He said: Everybody is entitled to his own opinion. Only Femi and Funke can talk better on that. I am their father in the industry.’’ Another Nollywood source said, these days, Funke has become the toast in Adebayo’s household. The source disclosed:
‘‘Funke has played herself to be a very important personality to all members of Femi Adebayo’s family. They are involved in the production of her movies. Apart from that, she visits them at their Ikorodu, Lagos home regularly. ’’

Personally, I dnt want to believe this is true especially allegation of wife 'abandonment' levelled against him. He seems responsible to me and am one of his fans for that matter and even Jenifa(the lady in the middle of the whole controversy). Let's wait and see where this whole story is heading. Yoruba people will say 'ka si ma wooo', so eje ka ma wo na...ndewo ooooooooo

FG creates investment ministry, targets creation of 3m jobs annually
THE Federal Government, yesterday, created the Ministry of Trade and Investment in line with its promise to transform the economy within the next four years.
It also announced the setting up of $500million capital for small and medium scale companies at single digit interest rate.
The fund which will be administered by the new ministry in collaboration with Lagos Business School is aimed at breaking the country’s vicious circle of poverty through aggressive and productive investment drive.
It will be headed by former Minister of Finance, Dr. Olusegun Aganga.
Good idea, hope the ministry will be productive, because the rate of unemployment in Nigeria currently is just too high. A lot of us are still actively job hunting...lets watch and see

FG backdates new minimum wage to March •Only GL 01 to GL 06 officers affected
WE have a circular ready and we have almost distributed it but I was asked to wait because, normally, when we get approval for issuance of circular, we issue and send around. Money is available; it is with effect from 23rd March, 2011 and arrears will be paid to those who are concerned.”
Chairman National Salaries Income and Wages Commission (NSIWC), Richard Egbule, told the leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), as well as employers’ association on the readiness of the Federal Government to implement the N18,000 National Minimum Wage on Monday.
The Minister of Labour, Chief Emeka Wogu, actually ensured that the circular that contained the structure for the payment and implementation of the new minimum wage was released to the labour leaders at the crucial meeting called at the instance of the minister.

Irrespective of whatever excuses the government is giving, I think this new minimum wage should have been formalised by now, if not for the planned industrial action, I'm sure government will still be stylishly 'buying time' before full implementation. Anyway, congratulations to the Nigerian workers...the state governments should follow this good example and stop bringing up excuses. Have a nice day everyone...ubochi oma ooooo

Corps members to receive N19,800 monthly
The Federal Government has approved an increment in the monthly allowance of Corps members from N9,775 to N19,800.
The increment was conveyed in a letter from the Presidency to the Office of the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, and sent to all state Coordinators of the NYSC.
Tsiga who spoke to newsmen, Monday, in Abuja said “I am delighted to inform you that The President and Commander-in- Chief, Goodluck Jonathan has graciously approved increment in the Corps members allowances from N9,775.00 to N19,800.00 with effect from March,2011.
” The payment will take effect from March, 2011″ and the 2010 Batch ‘B’ Corps members that have just passed out from the scheme will therefore be paid in arrears” he said.
“They are serving their fatherland, we are posting them to states outside their state of origin, nobody gives them anything except the allowances and it has been stipulated in the law establishing the NYSC that the Federal, States, Local Government and other stakeholders should periodically review the allowances of the corps members”, he said.
He called on states and local governments to emulate the gesture of the Federal Government and improve on the allowances, accommodation and other welfare of the corps members as according to him,” the future of the country are in their hands”.(Vanguard Newspaper)
