Zambian Model Mofya Chisenga Dies During Childbirth

The popular 28yr old Zambian model, beauty queen and entrepreneur died during childbirth last weekend, Friday Oct 14, 2011. The model had been very sick while pregnant. Doctors said she had fluid in her lungs. They managed to deliver her baby but couldn't save her.

Mofya represented Zambia at Tourism Queen International Pageant 2005 in China and the Miss Universe in Los Angeles California.

Zambia is mourning her. May her soul rest in peace...amen.

Chelsea FC Splash N500M On 14-Year-Old Oluwaseyi Ojo

UK’s Chelsea Football Club have agreed to pay a whooping sum of  N500,000,000 (five hundred Million Naira) to sign a 14-year-old teenage sensation called Oluwaseyi Ojo.
Ojo is viewed as one of the hottest prospects in the English football scene with about four other big clubs including Manchester United, Liverpool and Arsenal, trying to get him to sign with them.
But the youngster decided to sign with Chelsea FC after the London club presented three offers to Ojo while he played for England’s Under 16s, against Northern Ireland at Chesterfield on Wednesday, October 12, 2011.
‘I was very excited and surprised, being one of the youngest is a bit of added pressure but it is also a bit of an advantage’, Ojo said after he was picked for England Under 16.
Until his permanent move to Chelsea FC, Ojo, plays for Milton Keynes Dons Football Club (MK Dons).

Fred Amata In Court Over Unpaid Rent

Popular Nollywood actor and producer Fred Amata is facing some real ‘drama’, as on Thursday, October 13, 2011 he was reportedly brought before the Magistrates’ court for allegedly owing a year’s rent, News Agency of Nigerian (NAN) has reported.
Several newspapers last weekend reported that Amata was dragged to court by the plaintiff – Mr. I.F Fadoyebo, a landlord, who told the court in his statement that the respected actor owed him N600,000, being the yearly rent for his apartment.
Fadoyebo also said his four-bedroom bungalow situated at 8, Razaq Balogun Street, Surulere was occupied by Amata illegally as he failed to pay his rent for a year. He stressed that he had served the actor a quit notice but he failed to acknowledge it.
The News Agency of Nigerian (NAN) has also reported that Amata never showed up in court on the said day. But we are told Amata’s lawyer Chris Okoh was present to tell the court that his client was ill and couldn’t appear in court.
The case has been adjourned to Tuesday, October 18, 2011 for further hearing.
Speaking with our reporters, Amata said he was mourning the death of his mother who passed away on Thursday, September 15, 2011. ‘You’ll have to book an appointment, I’m mourning the death of my mother and I want all that to pass away before I move on’, Amata told Nigerian Entertainment Today.
Amata in his career has starred in over 39 movies and directed or produced over 20 home videos. In 2006, he starred in the Nigerian-British historical drama film ‘Amazing Grace‘. He is brother to popular actor Zack Amata and producer/director Jeta Amata.

Baba Suwe’s detention illegal –Lawyers

Legal practitioners serving in Bamidele Aturu and Co have faulted the continued detention of the ace actor and comedian, Babatunde Omidina (aka Baba Suwe) by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The head of the law firm, Bamidele Aturu and the immediate past Secretary of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, Malachy Ugwummadu, jointly condemned the unlawful detention of the suspect, who was arrested by the NDLEA last week on his way to France.

Addressing journalists on Monday on the state of the nation, ahead of its forthcoming fourth Annual Law and Social Development Lecture scheduled for October 24 at the Ikeja Airport Hotel, Aturu said the security agencies in the country have been incapacitated by the defective structures of governance.
The spokesman of the anti-drugs agency, Mitchel Ofoyeju, had in a statement at the weekend admitted that no drug was found in the excretion of the ace actor, even as the NDLEA airport commander, Alhaji Hamza Umar, confirmed that the actor was still being monitored in safe custody.
Reacting to the long detention, Aturu argued that detaining him for more than 24 hours without charging him to court constituted a breach of his human rights. According to him, it was unconstitutional keeping the popular actor in custody, while waiting for him to do the toilet that would generate the much awaited evidence for his prosecution.

Similarly, Ugwummadu expressed similar opinion, as he described the detention of the suspect for days as a breach of his rights.
Aturu said the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC), the police and Code of Conduct Bureau have failed in their statutory mandates and ordered the immediate resignation of their heads.
“The trials of former governors are just mere propaganda routines to hoodwink the unsuspecting members of the public that the phantom war aginst corruption is alive. The war never took off as a matter of fact. The people must seize the space and take on the corrupt politicians with a frenzy never before seen”, he said.

Aturu lamented the waste of public funds through security votes, describing it as a pipe for draining public resources. “In practice, governors and the presidency have access to billions if not trillions of naira every year without accounting for how they are spent. This cannot continue. We will challenge all the governors and the president very soon in the court of law and of public opinion”, he said.
