NDLEA To Appeal Judgement On Baba Suwe

The National Drug law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has reacted to the judgement made by the Ikeja High Court, ordering the agency to compensate popular actor Baba Suwe with a sum of N25M (Twenty five million Naira).
In a statement released hours just after Justice Yetunde Idowu made the ruling, Ofoyeju Mitchell spokesman for the NDLEA says that the agency will appeal against the judgement by Justice Idowu.
He further stated that agency’s director of prosecution and legal services, Mr Femi Oloruntoba in his reaction said that the judgement ‘did not reflect the facts before the court’.
‘The judgement is not a reflection of the facts before the court. It is a misapprehension of the law as it relates to power of law enforcement agencies and the liberty of citizens. We shall appeal as the judgement cannot stand the test of time’, Oloruntoba said.
The position of the agency is that Omidina was treated fairly and professionally while in the Agency’s custody. It also described claims by the comedian that he was treated like a common criminal as untrue’, Ofoyeju Mitchell stressed.
Ofoyeju also added that the scanning machines in all the international airports are ‘functional and manned by competent officers’. He praised the efficiency of the scanning machines which tracked seven suspects that tested positive about the same time the actor was arrested stating that they had all defecated the drugs they ingested.
The appeal is yet to be filed.
