Media making it difficult to have girlfriend –Ronaldinho

Ronaldinho
Ronaldinho has revealed that he finds it hard to have a girlfriend because of media interference into his private life.
The 31-year-old attacker returned to his native Brazil last year to link up with Flamengo, after a decade in Europe during which he was twice crowned FIFA World Player of the Year.
However, Ronaldinho is now finding that what he does off the field is being scrutinized as closely as what he does on it, making it difficult for him to find love.
“It’s hard to have a girlfriend because everything I do is news,” the former Gremio man told Globo TV’s ‘Mais Voce’. “I will never stop living my life because people will always talk, but sometimes it bothers those on the side. People want to live a normal life. I try to be discreet, but I am not allowed to. After the invention of the camera phone …”
However, while Ronaldinho admitted that he would like to find someone to spend the rest of his life with, he is not yet ready to settle down.
“I’m too crazy to get married,” he confessed. “I never wanted to marry without having a proper married life. I think I need to retire first, as I’ll still have a while yet. Although I want to marry, I also like the single life, not having to please anyone.”

I’m partly to blame for failed hostage rescue – Jonathan

Goodluck Jonathan
President Goodluck Jonathan said on  Thursday he would take some of the responsibility for a failed hostage rescue attempt in which an Italian and a British man died in Sokoto.
Kidnappers killed Franco Lamolinara and Chris McManus on Thursday last week while a raid to free them was under way, according to British government sources briefed on the matter.
The case drew criticism from top Italian officials, who questioned why Rome was not consulted before the operation, which was launched by Nigerian forces with support from Britain.
In an interview with CNN on  Thursday, Jonathan said Nigerian authorities had worked with the British and other international intelligence agencies, but did not specify who the other nations were.
Jonathan said Nigeria took its share of the blame for the operation’s failure.

Ummmmm, its all about being responsible...good one there from Mr. President.

1999 Constitution: N’Assembly seeks dismissal of Soyinka’s suit

Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka
National Assembly has filed an objection to a suit by Nobel Laureate, Prof. Wole Soyinka, and Fred Agbeyegbe, seeking a Federal High Court, Lagos to declare that the amended 1999 Constitution is not an act of the people.
The Clerk of the National Assembly, in a written address dated March 15, 2012, filed by Mr. Friday Akoko, urges the presiding judge, Justice James Tsoho, to strike out the suit on the grounds of a lack of jurisdiction.
The plaintiffs had instituted the suit in 2009 seeking the production of a constitution that is  “a true reflection of the peoples’ opinion” emanating from “a proper referendum”.
They maintain that the constitution is “patently and inherently defective” because it allegedly does not reflect the opinion of the people of Nigeria.
They are therefore asking the court to order that the draft constitution prepared by the Peoples’ National Conference in August 2006 and the recommendations of the National Political Reform Conference of 2006 be subjected to “a proper referendum” of Nigerians within 18 months.
In the alternative, they asked the court to order that the 1999 Constitution be subjected to such referendum in order to seek the opinion of the people of Nigeria.
Among the five respondents in the suit, only the Clerk of the National Assembly was represented by a counsel at Thursday’s  proceedings, and had so far, filed an address challenging the court’s jurisdiction to hear the suit.
Other defendants in the suit are the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; the Attorney-General of the Federation; the President of the Senate; and the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Akoko maintained that the plaintiffs ought to have filed the suit in Abuja Judicial Division of the court, “where the 1999 Constitution was promulgated and  all the defendants reside and carry on their business”.

EFCC to hunt corrupt civil servants

EFCC boss, Ibrahim Lamorde
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission said it is putting finishing touches to its plans to arrest and prosecute civil servants who collaborate with politicians to loot the nation’s treasury.
The EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Lamorde,  in Lagos on Thursday said the commission’s initial investigation showed that there was a high level of corruption in the civil service.
He said, “The way they steal is mind-boggling. We have to look at those of them that enriched themselves by helping politicians to steal or through other corrupt means.
“Some of them even steal more than the politicians. There is no level that is not involved; from directors to the messengers. It is a shame.
“For instance, the government said nobody should use cheques in its ministries, agencies and parastatals for transaction. All transactions are to be done through e-payment. But some civil servants ignored this and instead continued using cheques.
“There was a fraud investigation that EFCC conducted and it was discovered that 13, 000 cheques were used to take money out at different times.”
Lamorde asserted that if corruption must be  curtailed, in the country, every sector must be examined.
