Atiku, Tinubu, Alams, Buhari, others failed Nigeria – Obasanjo

Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, yesterday, said his former deputy, Atiku Abubakar; chieftain of All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Salisu Buhari, and former governors of Delta and Bayelsa states, James Ibori and Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, respectively, had failed the nation.

He said it was sad that after 53 years of independence, there was no leader that could be commended.
The ex-president said this while delivering a keynote address at the fourth annual Ibadan Sustainable Development Summit, organised by Centre for Sustainable Development, University of Ibadan, in collaboration with African Sustainable Development Network.
The ex-president started in his jovial characteristic manner as he mentioned all those he claimed had failed to justify the leadership confidence reposed in them.
While responding to issues relating to poor leadership in Africa, he specifically mentioned Alhaji Abubakar, Tinubu, Salisu Buhari, Alamieyeseigha and others.
He said: “I wanted someone who would succeed me so I took Atiku. Within a year, I started seeing the type of man Atiku is. And you want me to get him there?”
On young politicians
He added that during his administration, there were some politicians who were under 50 years in leadership positions.
Obasanjo said: “One of them was James Ibori. Where is he today? One of them was Alameseigha. Where is he today? Lucky Igbinedion; where is he today?
“The youngest was the Speaker, Buhari. You can still recall what happened to him.
“You said Bola Tinubu is your master. What Salisu Buhari did was not anything worse than what Bola Tinubu did.

PDP crises: Governors clash at Abuja peace meeting

OBJ-n-Jonathan obasanjo jonathan
For about two hours Monday night, governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) traded blames before ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo on the crises threatening to cripple the ruling party.
The ex-President had asked the governors to speak on their grievances. Each had three minutes.
President Goodluck Jonathan was not at the meeting, which was tagged “exploratory”.
The open complaint approach, however, created tension, with governors Rotimi Amaechi (Rivers) and Godswill Akpabio (Akwa Ibom) engaging in a shouting match.
After taking complaints from all, Obasanjo said the meeting would continue last night.
It was learnt that there were eight issues tabled at the tension-soaked meeting at the Presidential Villa.
They are: division within PDP leadership; disagreement between some governors and the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur; the implosion in the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF); crises in some states; Anambra governorship poll; Rivers crisis; reconciliation within the party; and the alarm raised by five Northern governors on how to keep the party intact and win the 2015 poll.

No money to meet ASUU’s demands, says Okonjo-Iweala

ngozi Okonjo-Iweala

Minna— There ap-pears to be no end in sight to the lingering strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, in the country as Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala declared, yesterday, that the nation’s economy cannot accommodate the demands of the lecturers for now.
The minister spoke while delivering her keynote address at the opening ceremony of this year’s National Council on Finance and Economic Development, NACOFED, in Minna, Niger State, yesterday.
She said that if other sectors were to be adequately and urgently developed, less emphasis should be placed on recurrent expenditure, especially salaries and allowances of workers.
According to her, “at present, ASUU wants government to pay N92 billion in extra allowances over and above their salaries. Though we are in discussion with them, the problem is that the resources to take care of the demands are simply not there.”

Beverly makes History as the First Housemates to Sail through BBA without being Nominated

Love her, hate her, call her a flirt and a talkative... The former video-vixen, now Big brother reality TV show housemate, flying the colours of Nigeria on Monday evening became the first Big Brother housemate to sail through the season without being Nominated.

As the Big Brother show rounds up in a couple of days from now, many will wonder how Beverly managed to go 11 weeks, and 11 different nomination sessions without being nominated.

Perhaps the Big Brother housemates see something in the lingerie model that we out cannot see, Through the 11 weeks the 28 Big Brother housemates took turns to eliminate each other by nominating  2 contestants each week and putting them up for possible eviction (The housemates with the highest nominations).

Miraculously Beverly was the only housemate who was never nominated, even the much loved and more reserved Melvin was up for eviction in the 6th week.
