Christmas: Jos residents laud security arrangement
In spite of the bomb blast that hit the vicinities of a church in Jos on Christmas Day, residents of Plateau State have lauded the security arrangements made for a hitch-free celebration.
Some of them, who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), said they believed that the situation would have been worse but for the proactive steps taken by the police and members of the Special Task Force (STF).
Residents had feared a repeat of what happened on the eve of the 2010 Christmas, when the city was hit by multiple bomb blasts, but this time, security operatives took proactive measures to ensure a smooth celebration.
As part of the measures taken, the Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ayeni, banned the operations of commercial motorcyclists on December 24.
Ayeni said the ban, which lasted for three days, became necessary because commercial motorcycles were usually used to commit crimes during the festivities, especially for hurling of bombs.
It was also reported that at least five policemen and a soldier were deployed to man the entrances and vicinities of every Church on Christmas day.
