Kogi Governorship Election

PALPABLE fear seems to have taken over Kogi State following the drafting of soldiers to the State Independent Electoral Commission, SIEC, to monitor and safe guard electoral materials for tomorrow’s scheduled governorship elections in the state.
Some of the soldiers who spoke on condition of anonymity, assured that the election would be a different one from what obtained in the past. They said anyone who flouted electoral rules would be dealt with accordingly.
Attempts to get reactions from members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, proved abortive.
But in a swift reaction to the deployment of soldiers, the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, candidate, Prince Abubakar Audu, who spoke through his media aide, Mr Sani Onogu, appealed to security agencies to ensure that lives and property were adequately protected.
As at Wednesday night, only men of the Nigeria Civil Defence Corp, NCDC, stood guard at the SIEC headquarters.
By Thursday morning, however, the guard had changed as stern looking soldiers stood guard at the entrance to SIEC offices and some strategic locations around the complex.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the apex electoral body, Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Prof. Attahiru Jega, in a parley with stakeholders, assured that the electoral body was ready to conduct a credible election in the state.
