Sokoto’s escape: IGP’s fate hangs in the balance

AS Nigerians await the outcome of the high powered investigative panel to review the explanation offered by the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mr. Hafiz Ringim, over the escape of Madalla church suspected bomber, Mr Kabir Sokoto, there are indications that the fate of the embattled IGP is hanging in the balance.
The IGP is facing a panel put together by the National Security Adviser, NSA, Gen. Andrew Azazi, to study his response to a query issued him by the Minister of Police Affairs, Mr Caleb Olubolade, over the dramatic escape of the key suspect in the Madalla, Niger State Christmas day bombing which killed over 50 people, with many injured.
Vanguard gathered the NSA’s  panel is expected to turn in its report on the IG’s response, Friday.
For the first time since he got the query, Ringim was spotted at the Presidential Villa, yesterday, but chose to snub State House correspondents, when approached for an interview.
The IG pleaded that he  be left alone for now and that at the appropriate time he would brief newsmen.
He said: “Please, please, not now. I will brief you later,” and went into a waiting car.
The panel which was at the instance of the NSA, according to findings, was as a result of the unsatisfactory response to the query.
It could not be confirmed  at press time if President Goodluck Jonathan will ease the police boss off his position or allow him to see off his term. Already, the IG is billed to retire in few months time.
