Onitsha South Local Government Area of Anambra State has inaugurated a task force of 50 youths to eliminate pests from the area.
The Chairman of the Transition Committee of the local
government, Mr. Ugochukwu Ezeani, who said this at the inauguration of
the fumigation programme tagged, “Operation Kill Mosquitoes and Rats
Now,” added that the membership of the task force would be increased to
450 before the end of the year.
The menace of rodents and mosquitoes in Fegge,
Headbridge, Odoakpu and Woliwo, the filth infested areas of Onitsha has
remained a cause for concern for the residents.
Ezeani said the council had purchased 30 units of
fumigation equipment and cartons of approved NAFDAC and human-friendly
chemicals for the exercise.
“From now on, fumigation of all sorts within the council would be carrie
d out through the approval of the council sanitary inspection department,” he said.
The Chief Sanitary Inspector of the council, Mr.
Joseph Anienugu, lauded the exercise, saying that it would complement
other programmes aimed at boosting the health of the residents of the
area.
