Cote
d’Ivoire international Didier Drogba was robbed in a hotel while
vacationing in Abidjan last week, according to local reports.
The 35-year-old striker, who joined
Turkish club Galatasaray last January, returned from town to his hotel
room on June 12 to find his luggage unpacked and strewed, with €7,500
missing. The Elephants’ captain reported immediately to the management
of Hotel Ivoire, a five-star establishment and the country’s biggest
hotel, where several players from the national team spend their
holidays.
Nobody has been arrested for burglary
and the funds have not been recovered, according to the police in the
Cocody district where the hotel is situated. An investigation has since
been opened.
Cote d’Ivoire booked its place to the
third and final round of the 2014 World Cup qualifiers last weekend
without Drogba, who is yet to return to the outfit.
