PDP may overrule Daniel’s suspension

The suspension of the immediate past Governor of Ogun State, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, by the Peoples Democratic Party in the state may soon be lifted by the party’s national leadership.
There was an indication on Monday that the national leadership  of the PDP might soon overrule the suspension placed on Daniel for alleged anti-party activities and for fraternising with the Labour Party by his local Ward 12 in Sagamu, Sagamu Local Government Area of the State.
PDP National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, gave the hint during the inauguration of the party secretariat in Abeokuta South Local Government Area, Ijeja, Abeokuta.
Tukur  described Daniel as a statesman  that must be accorded his “deserved status.”
Represented on the occasion by the  Chairman, Governing Council of the Federal Road Maintenance Agency, Jide Adeniji, the PDP national chairman said before a party chief of the former governor’s calibre could be  suspended, the decision must be ratified by the party’s National Executive Committee.

Adeniji said, “If the suspension was not legally followed, the suspension may be reviewed by the National Executive Council – Daniel  is still a member of PDP. Peradventure, some of his followers may be in Labour Party, his followers can go to any party,  he can’t stop them.”
The FERMA chief also hinted of plans to reconcile all the aggrieved members of the party, including the former governor, in the next two weeks.
The South-West Secretary of the PDP Caretaker Committee, Chief Pegba Otemolu, said the former governor remained a member of the party  and that his suspension was not indefinite.
Otemolu said the  constitutional provision of the party only gave room for a member to be suspended  for only 30 days before  such a member   could return to the party.
