More protests greet Lagos LG polls •As ACN, PDP supporters clash •PDP calls for arrest of LASIEC boss, others

THE crisis  that followed the just concluded local government  election in  Lagos State continued on Wednesday, as several people were injured, when supporters of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) clashed with those of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development  Area.
There was pandemonium on Wednesday morning, as protesting PDP supporters  made  bonfires at  strategic points at Abule Egba, disrupting the flow of traffic.
The police in the state, on Wednesday morning, drafted  over 50  armed policemen  consisting of men of the Rapid Response Squad  and conventional policemen, as well as OP MESA .
The Nigerian Tribune gathered that the  crisis started on Tuesday night  when people suspected to be members of the PDP  took to the major  streets at Abule Egba, protesting  against what they described as “rigging of last Saturday’s   chairmanship election in the council.”
The party supporters were instantly joined by hoodlums  and no sooner than expected, a clash ensued between  the protesting  PDP members and their counterparts from the ACN.
The clash continued on Wednesday when  supporters of the two parties started from  where they  stopped on Tuesday and attacked one another with machetes and broken bottles .
Several people were injured in the melee that ensued, as passengers   and residents of the area scampered for safety, following the heavy sporadic shootings from the warring parties.
The  hoodlums  blocked the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway, made bonfires  and distrupted the flow of human and vehicular traffic on the road.
The spokesman for the state police command, Samuel Jinadu, while speaking with the Nigerian Tribune, denied that several people were injured  but confirmed the demonstration by the party men.
He added that the police  were on top of the situation and had drafted anti-riot policemen to  major parts of Abule Egba.
Meanwhile, the PDP, on Wednesday, said that protests in some parts of Lagos State were precipitated and provoked by the alleged false  local government election results announced by the chairman, Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission, Justice Abdul-Fatai Adeyinka, and called for his arrest and that of all the LG/LCDA Returning Officers.
