The
police in Ondo State said on Monday that four teenagers had been
arrested for the alleged murder of Godswill Omokabo, an 11-year-old
pupil of a primary school in the state.
Godswill
was alleged to have been murdered by the four suspects aged between 11
and 13 years on Friday, following his refusal to allow them use his
mobile phone. The suspects are co-tenants of the deceased who attended a
private school in Oke Aro area of Akure.
PUNCH METRO
learnt that the deceased was thrown into the bush at Adofure farm,
which is some kilometres away from Akure, the state capital, after he
was murdered.
Godswill
reportedly drew the ire of the suspects after an argument ensued
following his refusal to allow them to use his mobile phone.
Sources told PUNCH METRO
that Godswill’s friends "threatened to deal with him and within three
days after their threat, the victim was found dead in the bush with
several marks all over his body."
It was further learnt that the suspects told parents of the deceased various accounts of how their son died.
One
of the sources, who did not want to be named because of the sensitive
nature of the incident, said the suspects told Godswill’s parents that
he fell in a river and got drowned, while in another version they said
he got drowned while they were all swimming.
Godswill’s
father, Joseph, was said to have reported the matter to the police
after 24 hours of search and the corpse of Godwill could not be found.
Further
investigations revealed that one of the suspects was said to have
taken his parents to where they hid Godswill’s corpse and it was
recovered without the knowledge of the deceased parents.
Our
correspondent learnt that when Joseph was later told that the corpse
had been recovered, he suspected foul play and raised the alarm. When
Godswill’s corpse was found, there were bruises all over his body.
Speaking
on the matter the mother of the deceased, Patience, said three days
before her son died; there was a hot argument between the suspects and
his friends over a mobile phone.
Our
correspondent further gathered that Godswill’s phone was later found
in possession of one of the four suspects days after the boy went
missing.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Aremu Adeniran, confirmed the arrest of the four teenagers.
Adeniran added that Godswill was murdered because he refused his friends the use of his phone.
"Investigation
has started on the matter. Four teenagers suspected to know something
about the death of the boy have been picked up," he said.
