(ESPN) - Darren Bent has rallied behind Fernando Torres, describing the misfiring Chelsea man as the “best striker in the Premier League when fit”.
Torres joined Chelsea in a £50 million deal from Liverpool last
January, but has paid back just a fraction of that outlay with his
efforts for the Blues as he has just three league goals to his name.
The Spain international, who is likely to come up against Bent when
England take on the world and European champions this weekend, had
looked like finding top form earlier this season – but his momentum was
checked by a suspension.
He missed a sitter in Chelsea’s win at Blackburn on Saturday, but
Aston Villa forward Bent is still a huge admirer and feels he has the
edge on the likes of Wayne Rooney, Sergio Aguero and Robin van Persie
when fit.
“Torres is the best striker in the Premier League when fit, he’s that
good,” Bent said. “I’ve followed him right from Atletico Madrid to
Chelsea.
“Even though he missed a chance at Blackburn, he’s still the best.
“He’s quick, powerful, has a good touch, can shoot with either foot and use his head.”
