Eva
Ekvall was crowned Miss Venezuela at age 17 in 2000. The following
year she was third runner-up in the Miss Universe pageant in Puerto
Rico. She later went on to work as a model, actress, TV news anchor and
author, eventually
becoming one of her
home country's greatest cancer charity advocates after she was diagnosed
with advanced breast cancer in February 2010.
The
former beauty queen, whose mum is Jamaican and dad an American of
Swedish and Hungarian descent, died on Saturday in a Houston, Texas
hospital after a two year struggle with the disease.
She leaves behind a husband and a two year old daughter. RIP Eva!
