The
suspended Commissioner of Police, Zakari Biu, who is facing
disciplinary action over the escape of a high profile Boko Haram
suspect, on Tuesday appeared before the Senate Committee on Police
Affairs.
Biu was taken before the
committee where he was asked some questions by the senators about the
circumstances surrounding the escape of the suspect, Kabir Sokoto.
Sources said he was taken before the committee by a complement of riot policemen and security operatives in mufti.
Details of his appearance
before the committee was sketchy but there were indications that the
Force Disciplinary Committee, set up by the Force Headquarters to
determine the culpability or otherwise of Biu, began sitting on Tuesday.
The FDC, comprising six
senior Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, would take written and
oral defence from Biu and are expected to make recommendations which
would be sent to the Police Service Commission.
