Kanye West performs on stage at Big Day Out 2012 at the Sydney Showground on January 26 |
Grammy Award-winning rapper, Kanye West is set to shoot a short film in the Middle East.
The ‘Watch the Throne’ co-creator’ plans to create a short film based on the cultures of the Persian Gulf. We’re told the project will be very similar to the 30-minute hybrid art film ‘Runaway’ that the rapper released in 2010.
The rapper’s team has a number of
meetings scheduled with film companies and government officials in Abu
Dhabi, Dubai, and Doha, Qatar in order to explore the future production,
which could begin filming as early as March.
Evidently, the project has resulted in a
heated bidding war in both countries as production companies compete
for the opportunity to hook up with Yeezy. Film industries in the region
are largely government controlled.
Apparently Kanye West devised the story
for his film after performing in Abu Dhabi last year when he developed
an appreciation for the region. West’s production is expected to make
use of local talent and production crews and portray the cultures of the
region in a positive light.
Kanye West was on January 8, 2012, voted
the ninth artist (third male artist) on Nielsen SoundScan all-time
best-selling tracks (digital) with 30,242,000 million sold in the USA
alone towards the end of 2011.
