Atiku Seeks Implementation Of Uwais’ Electoral Report

Atiku-Abubakar

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has called on the federal government to fully implement report of the former Chief Justice of Nigeria, (CJN) Justice Muhammad Uwais’ Electoral Reform Committee.
Atiku stressed that Nigeria should be among the countries that would record one of the best electoral process in Africa and the world by the year 2015.
The former VP stated this in Abuja yesterday at the book presentation in honour of the former CJN. He also emphasised that the Uwais’ Committee report remains the most comprehensive one, which if implemented, could improve significantly Nigeria’s electoral system.
He therefore urged the National Assembly to take advantage of the ongoing amendment of the 1999 Constitution to inculcate those recommendations of Uwais’ report that could strengthen our electoral system.
Atiku also said that both members of the National assembly and officials of Independent national Electoral Commission (INEC) present at the book presentation should take it upon them as a challenge in ensuring that they make Uwais’ report an issue of national importance.
