THE National Directorate of the Na tional
Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has directed its 36 state offices not to
hold elaborate passing out parade for the Batch C corps members who
will be discharged from service next Tuesday.
This directive, according to the Osun State coordinator of the
scheme, Mr Henry Enyenhi, is as a result of the security situation in
the country.
Speaking at a one-day free empowerment seminar organised for a few
Batch C corps members in Ife zone by Ife Business School at Ife City
Hall on Monday, Mr Enyenihi said that the NYSC directorate had also
outlawed night parties for the outgoing corps members as a result of the
security situation.
He said : You are all aware of the security situation in the country.
Next week passing out ceremony will be low key. There will be no
ceremonial passing out parade usually held in the state capital. All
outgoing corps members will be issued their certificates at their zonal
offices and this will be done after the presentation of their identity
cards.
“As a result of the security situation, corps members are not allowed
to hold night parties for their send-off ceremony. Only cocktail
parties are allowed and this can only be done during daytime before
6.00p.m.
Mr Enyenihi, who was represented by Mr Abiodun Olaifa, Assistant
Director of Corps Welfare and Inspection, however, commended the corps
members who served the nation meritoriously adding that those posted to
schools to teach would be remembered by their students for doing a good
job.
