President
Goodluck Jonathan will, within the next two weeks, begin an evaluation
of the performance of members of the Federal Executive Council.
The review and appraisal of members of
the FEC are part of measures aimed at ensuring that long-term national
strategic development plans are coordinated at the federal, states and
local government levels.
Unlike in the past where the
performances of ministers were measured quantitatively, the current
indicators would be based on how programmes of Ministries, Departments
and Agencies of government had impacted on the people.
The Minister of National Planning, Dr.
Shamsuddeen Usman, confirmed the development at a three-day strategic
management retreat for senior members of staff of the NPC and its
parastatals.
The retreat with theme, ‘National
Planning Commission as a pacesetter’ was geared towards articulating
strategies toward making the NPC a pacesetter institution for the
country.
Top government officials comprising the
Chairman, Senate Committee on National Planning Affairs and Poverty
Alleviation, Senator Barnabas Gemade; and the Deputy Chairman, House
Committee on National Planning and Economic Development, Mr. Abdulrahman
Badamasi attended the workshop.
Usman said, “We are doing a lot in
order to achieve our mandate, especially in this area of performance
contract between ministers and the president.
