Thousands of members of the Peoples Democratic Party in oil rich Nigerian state of Rivers have trooped to Government House in Port Harcourt, in a demonstration of support for Governor Rotimi Amaechi. The demonstrators came from various Local Government Areas in the state.
Amaechi, also chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum appeared to be the target of wing-clipping by his party, with the latest being the supplanting of the state executive officers of the party by another set loyal to the party chiefs in Abuja.

Governor Amaechi who was not on hand to receive the demonstrators was represented by the Deputy Governor, Tele Ikuru, who said the temple of justice has been desecrated following the Abuja High Court judgment that removed the Godpower Ake led PDP State Executive.
He recalled that he was part of the congress that took place on March 27, 2012, the votes were counted and the results revealed.

He said those who allegedly manufactured lies that there was no congress that saw the election of Chief Godspower Ake and his executives and presented such lies in Court actually desecrated the temple of justice.
“When certain people die, their eyes will remain open for doing evil. They will be buried with their eyes open because they refused to say the truth”, Ikuru said.
He urged Rivers people to remain calm despite the distractions by politicians against the government.
The Senator representing Rivers South-East Senatorial District, Magnus Abe said, the PDP stalwarts were in Government House to agitate for freedom, and will never be slaves to any political group in the state.
“We will not allow their selfish motives to override the overall interest of Rivers people. The challenge we are facing today is the PDP Congress of March 27, 2012. Everybody knew there was congress and Chief Godpower Ake was duly elected. How could they present somebody (Chief Felix Obuah) who did not pick intent form for the PDP congress? ”, Senator Magnus Abe said.
Meanwhile,a stone throw away from Government House,Nyesom Wike, the Minister of State in the Ministry of Education was on “Viewpoint” a live radio interactive programme of Silverbird Rhythm 93.7,Port Harcourt, where he explained the scenario that led to the emergence of Chief Felix Obuah.
He claimed that Obuah and his executive were denied their rights just as Governor Amaechi was denied his in 2007 but he supported Amaechi to reclaim his mandate.
He claimed that he had no regrets working for the emergence of Obuah because it was a fight for justice.
He argued that if there was a congress as Ake faction claimed, how come he, a serving minister and a delegate, was not in their video clip?
Wike said that he has no personal quarrel with the Governor, but differed on “Some Political issues.”
“You cannot disrespect the Federal Government for which I am serving or my boss(President Goodluck Jonathan) and you expect that we’ll not differ.”
He warned that the PDP will not condone factions in the party and the Obuah committee will soon set up reconciliation committee to unite members.
