I’ll Take Out Bad Eggs From Judiciary — New CJN

Incoming chief justice of Nigeria Mariam Alooma Mukhtar has admitted that there is rot in the judiciary, saying that she is ready to cleanse the rot and take out the bad eggs in the third arm.
Mukhtar, who stated this at the Senate yesterday shortly before her confirmation as the first female CJN, also informed the senators that she would sanitise and redeem the public perception of the judiciary.
Justice Mukhtar’s confirmation was sequel to a two- hour drill by senators on judicial matters and administrative issues.
Fielding questions from the senators, Mukhtar decried the withholding of state judiciary funds by state governors, saying that it runs contrary to the provision of the constitution.
She further decried the spate of conflicting judgments from the divisions in the Court of Appeal.
Admitting that the public perception of the judiciary was very bad, the new CJN said, “But then as I said, I will try to make sure that the confidence reposed in the judiciary as it were before will be restored.
“I will try as much as possible to ensure that the bad eggs that are there are taken out. There will be a cleansing by the NJC based on petition. It is sad that the ordinary man in the street now thinks and feels that he will not get justice, and this is because of the situation we find ourselves. I will ensure that this perception is changed.”
