Hillary Clinton to discuss Boko Haram, corruption with Jonathan, others

United States Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, is expected to hold a closed door meeting with President Goodluck Jonathan; Vice-President Namadi Sambo; the security chiefs and other members of the National Security Council on Thursday, as part of her one-day visit to Nigeria.
Clinton, who is flying into Abuja from Cape Town, South Africa will immediately on arrival at the Presidential Villa hold a 15-minute meeting with President Jonathan.
Thereafter, she will hold a 50-minute expanded meeting with Jonathan and members of the NSC.
The meeting is expected to discuss the rising security threats in Nigeria; the controversy over calls on Washington to designate Boko Haram as a terrorist group as well as Abuja’s reluctance to endorse the appeals; piracy in the Gulf of Guinea; and cooperation between Nigeria and the U.S on security.
She will also meet with Nigerian anti-corruption activists at the residence of the United States Ambassador to Nigeria, Terrence McCulley, for 45 minutes and also meet with U.S Embassy staff at the embassy.
Clinton will thereafter depart Abuja for Accra, Ghana for a meeting with President John Mahama.
She will also attend the funeral of late Ghana President John Atta Mills on Friday.
