Kogi: 11 suspects arrested over attack on Federal Poly

ELEVEN suspected hoodlums who allegedly attacked the Federal Polytechnic, Idah,  Kogi State, have been arrested by the state police command.
The arrested suspects allegedly attacked the institution and destroyed property worth thousands of naira.
The suspects were picked from their hideout at the weekend in Idah while others are still at large.
Nigerian Tribune investigation gathered that the alleged suspects who were former workers of the institution led others to attack the institution.
The said workers allegedly attacked the house of the bursar of the institution and vandalised it.
The workers had demanded for the continued payment of salaries for April to December 2007 despite the fact that they had been retired from service.
The management of the institution, in its reaction to the demand of the retired workers, had said that their demands were frivolous, baseless and meant to blackmail members of the authorities of the institution.
Effort to speak with the Police Public Relations Officer was unsuccessful but a senior officer confirmed the story, saying that the suspects were currently under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department.
Meanwhile, the institution’s management board chairman, Air Commodore Peter Gana (retd)  described as untrue and malicious the exited workers’ claims that their allowances had been paid to the coffers of the institution and challenged them to make public evidence of such payment to the anti-graft agencies for prosecution.
Speaking with newsmen in Lokoja on the crisis that almost engulfed the institution, he said,.
“No member of the institution’s management team is afraid to face EFCC/ICPC if there is genuine evidence to buttress such allegation before the school management.”
