Abolore ‘9ice’ Akande has announced his
intention to venture into politics in the coming years. 9ice says he is
‘going to contest in the year 2015 for ‘House of Representatives position’. The multi-award-winning musician is from Ogbomoso in Oyo state.
The ‘Gongo Aso’ hit maker disclosed the information on Channels TV’s Sunrise Daily ‘Artiste
of the Week’ segment on Saturday, February 18, 2012. He however says it
will take that long because he plans to obtain a degree in Law before
contesting. 9ice says he is currently taking an online course in Public
Administration at the Minneapolis based Capella University.
‘You know in Naija (Nigeria) they
believe if you don’t go to school, they believe you can’t govern, you
can’t lead, so it has become a barrier, this era you have to be
educated. Politics has been in me since I was young’, 9ice said.
The singer does not presently have a university degree. He told
reporters years before he found fame with ‘Gongo Aso’, that he used
funds meant to purchase his JAMB form to book studio sessions.
And when asked about his relationship with separated wife Toni Payne, he explained that although they weren’t together anymore, ‘she is still my legal wife and we are good friends’.
9ice recently cleared the air on rumours
that were suggesting Toni Payne was pregnant with a second child for
him. The singer is currently promoting his 4th and 5th albums ‘Bashorun Gaa’ and ‘Versus’ which he is planning a March 11 concert for.
