Emedolu cries for help over Abia job loss

Abuja 2003 All-Africa Games gold medallist, Uchenna Emedolu, has called for help from the Federal Government after his employers, the Abia State Government, disengaged him from the state service as an athletics coach due to the indigenisation policy in the state.
The former sprinter and his superior Tobias Igwe are among the non-indigenes in the state payroll that have had their appointments terminated without severance pay.
In spite of his dilemma, Emedolu still finds the energy to train some athletes in Enugu State as Nigeria prepare for the 2012 London Olympics, but admits he will need his five months salaries owed by the state to survive.
“It’s unfair that anyone should be treated this way after serving the government for years. I don’t understand why we still have such policies operating in Nigeria; it’ll cause more problems than solutions for us,” Emedolu, who led Nigeria to a bronze medal finish in the 4×100 metres event at the 2004 Olympics, said.
“It’s difficult surviving without being paid for over five months but I have to continue coaching because athletics is my passion. I hope the Federal Government can intervene in this matter and get us back in the state service.”
Igwe, fondly called Toblow, is also devastated for being disengaged from the service after 13 years, with just a year to his retirement.
